Hi all,

With our last AlphaTrak 2 strip, we wanted to compare BG numbers with the numbers from the FreeStyle Lite, which we plan to start using regularly. Using the same drop of blood at +10 hours, we obtained 434 with the AlphaTrak and 187 with the FreeStyle Lite. The numbers in our spreadsheet (except the last entry) are from AlphaTrak, and so I feel 434 is comparable to the other numbers we've generated for Leo. My question is, which should I believe? I will gather more numbers with the FreeStyle Lite but in the meantime, should we think he's a little hyper or a lot hyper?

4.5 units BID Lantus

Thank you so much!

Count me as a Freestyle hater. You are probably the 4th or 5th person here lately with the same complaint. Many people have done comparisons, and my two cents is trust the AlphaTrak numbers.

I will link some threads when I get a chance to dig for them ...

Start about halfway down this thread, I'm sorry I can't link actual post from my phone. If you look at Stephanie's spreadsheet, she did a fair amount of work comparing numbers.

I also know @Liz & Minnie struggled with this for awhile

This is the only reason I haven't purchased the Freestyle. What is the point if it's not going to give me good readings? In fact, you could make the argument for it being worse than not knowing at all.

For example, based on OP's 187 someone might not even shoot. And yet the cat needs a shot, clearly the BG is high based on the AlphaTrak. Seems like getting the cat regulated would be very difficult to impossible going off those faulty numbers.

Also, unrelated - at that dose with those AT numbers, I'd start thinking about testing for underlying conditions in about a month or two. Once they hit 6U on LC diet, that's usually when we start looking at underlying stuff. Primarily acromegaly an IAA. I know lots.of vets are packed and booked out right now, so might just want to schedule something then cancel later if needed

It's possible you might just need to hit a breakthrough dose as well

Look on your bottle of test strips. What is the cat code? Check out my post in this section. Beware of faulty AT2 test strips. If you want to know for sure, take him to the vet for blood work and test right there when they take blood.

Hi all, thank you so much. We’re sticking with AT2 strips in the AT2 and doing a comparison using the same drop with Freestyle Lite strips in the AT2. I know it’s a contentious topic but we are seeing how the numbers look. Keep you all updated, thanks again!
