AlphaTrak 2 test strips went down again!

when you get comfortable knowing your cat's average BG numbers, get some 'freestyle lite' strips, they are usually half that price and work just as good with readings around up to 10 lower than AT strips max. what i use with my AT2.

I bought 400 freestyle lite strips off of ebay for $160 including shipping. Was told they could be used in the Alpha Trak 2. Tried 1 out side by side with Alpha track and it was off by 20 points. Did a test later and it was WAY off. BUT since then they have been with 10 points of each other. Not sure why they were that off and now they are not. Anyways, if you want to buy a smaller supply off of ebay and give them a try, it might be worth it finacially.

I also use FreeStyle Lite strips in Alphatrak2, and have done so for over a year. They reliably have given good and repeatable results. Plus they are pretty inexpensive on Ebay. Make sure you check expirations before you buy anything over the web. I have never bought expired strips.

Yes hoping it will continue to go down. They went down $.20 since I posted this. They are now $42.75. I say let's keep the thread going and keep up Alphatrakers updated on when to buy :)

Possibly! lol I just had to buy some more and got them next day (yesterday) bc with Booger's ups, downs, ups, and downs, I went through quite a few strips this last week. Hopefully I will have the money to buy more when the price goes down lower.

The Alphatrak 2 is the only meter I've used so far, but I am using the Freestyle Freedom Lite test strips with it. I compared the AT2 strips to the FFL and I got pretty much identical readings (off by 2 pts.), so once I ran out of AT2 strips I switched to the FFL leaving the coding number of 38 that the AT2 uses for cats. I was amazed how little blood is required for the AlphaTrak2 - if you can see that there is a drop of blood, it's enough. Will probably switch to the Relion once I run out of these strips, but so far I've been very happy with it.

Yeah I was asking in another thread about the Freestyle Insulinx strips because those seem to be the cheapest. I would like to think that if the Freestyle Lite and Freestyle Freedom Lite strips work with the AT2 that the Freestyle Insulinx would as well seeing as they are all identical strips. One person replied saying that the Insulinx box says to only use those strips with the Freedom Insulinx system but it says the same thing on the Freestyle Lite strip box that they could only be used with the Freestyle Lite and Freestyle Freedom Lite meters. I really dont see why the Insulinx strips wouldn't work as well. I found them on Ebay for $9.99 free shipping. I am going to get some soon and we shall see if they work.

They are probably not selling them very well so they are dropping the price gradually to see what a good price point is to sell them at so people will buy them lol

You guys are funny. Why don't you just buy freestyle lite strips of ebay?!
Because I am a stickler for accuracy. I only want to use the strips I am supposed to use. This diabetes thing is complicated and maddening enough without introducing any unnecessary variables. The cost is not a problem for me... not that I want to pay any more than I have to though, hence the excitement over the price reductions. :D

Yes me too. I am a stickler for accuracy especially right now while Boogers readings are bouncing all over the place. Once we can get him under control, I wouldn't mind using a human monitor. Serveral people have said that the freestyle strips have only been a few points off compared to the Alphatrak strips for them so I am hopeful.

I totally understand. I wasn't trying to be a jerk, if I came off that way. I totally would have stuck with the Alpha strips too, but with all of the testing I was doing it was getting cost prohibitive.

Oh no I didn't think you were being a jerk. I actually bid on some freestyle strips as well. If they work out then thats what I will be using from now on. I am also going to try out the Freestyle Insulinx strips. Found those on Ebay for $9.99 free shipping for 50 strips.

I was concerned at first, and did get 1 weird reading from 1 freestyle strip, bu they have all been pretty spot on since. I ended up winning with a bid of $150 for 400 strips.

have you been trying the insulinx strips yet? was wondering how your results are & code you are using with them.
got mine today and so far i tried them with the code 38 i use with lite strips and they were 10 lower, with code 37 they were 3 higher than lite. cat got grumpy so gonna try more later but, these cheaper strips looks promising, at least with lower BG levels.

update:
next BG/strip testing: 101 freestyle lite, 104 freestyle insulinx

update:
123 FL, 131 insulinx same blood drop
125 AT, 138 i same blood drop.

seems results are best when under 120. Good affordable alternative strips overall but, i need more accurate ones now since tux injections are adjusted based on his numbers. 138 would mean .50 or .50 fat and 121 would mean .25 or .25 fat.. big difference for him. thinking i am gonna stick to the freestyle lite's strips for now.

Oh you’re giving them a go too?most of the time I have compared they have been close... just maybe 2 that have been more off than I’d like.
I just recently started using them and so far they are pretty darn close. Dre has never been "tightly" regulated so unless he is going low (he alerts me) I use them or the freestyles-- if low I use the official AT strips....that being said I did a side by side and that was close as well. :cat:
