Can cats take antihistamine for allergies? Kit breaks out in tiny bumps that he kicks & then I have to but a ze n collar on him for 10 days or more.

I have given my cats both Claritin and Zyrtec. 1/4 tablet twice a day. Make sure the med contains only the antihistamines and not anything else like a decongestant.

Willow gets Zyrtec (1/4 of a 10 mg tablet) every day for allergies. She has the sniffly, sneezing kind of allergies but does also get a bit itchy. The Zyrtec tends to increase appetite which works out well for us since she is 17 and making sure she keeps a healthy appetite and weight are important to me.

My Kit is 15 years old & weighs about 10 lbs. How much to give? When I asked the vet, awhile ago, he said no & gave me prednisolone 5 mg. I really don't want to
give this because of some of the side effects. These outbreaks go on all spring & summer. This a new vet, wasn't satisfied with previous vets giving of dangerous meds.
thank you!!

For Zyrtec (Cetirizine) 10 mg, I give 1/4 tablet usually 1-2 times a day. You do not want to give more than 5 mg per day

Claritin (Loratadine) you also do not want to give more than 5 mg per day. I split the dose to give twice a day

Another one that works well is Chlorpheniramine 4 mg. I give 1/4 tablet twice a day, but you can also give 1/2 tablet

With all of these I always buy the generic version.
