There's one vet tech at the ER who can actually communicate! I talked to her yesterday morning and assumed that all updates would be that thorough, but after calling yesterday during the daytime and getting hardly anything except "he's resting comfortably", I was glad to hear her voice again this morning.
The wonderful news is he ate some last night and again this morning! Not sure how often the do the ketone test, but she didn't have an update on that. She said his BG was in the mid- to high 300s almost all day yesterday. The internist said he'd update me midday today (of course, they also said he'd call me yesterday by noon and we didn't talk until 6:30, so again, I ask God for patience and some right now would be nice  )
Oh, and his blood work they did at admission showed his kidney numbers to be within normal ranges.
I know I said it before, but I really appreciate your thoughts and prayers and suggestions to test for ketones!
