Today is 3rd day of shooting .6 on the new insulin (BCP PZI). He's much flatter today.
Do I continue to hold?

I have no idea!

It appears what little drop he has occurs between +3 and +5. Do you ever test at +2--I know that sounds crazy....but, I wonder what he is doing early in the cycle.

I agree that there is no pattern in his SS-- I know you are frustrated.

Re: Alex - 7/17 --looking for a nadir in all the wrong place

I'm thinking the same thing -- increase the dose to 0.8U. He's all over the place on the SS, so it really is hard to figure out what he's doing. It sure looks to me like we've got another cat with a very early nadir that has insulin poop out much sooner than expected.

What kind of eating pattern does Alex follow? Does he eat throughout the day, or just before shots?

You can try a higher dose since this is a new type of insulin. Don't know whether it will work or not, but his SS sure strikes me as another cat that has an 8 hour time window on insulin at the most. TID anyone?

Re: Alex - 7/17 --looking for a nadir in all the wrong place

I would raise the dose, it just looks too low to me. I'd hold off on TID personally (nothing wrong with doing it, but I think it's pretty stressful to contemplate). I think his dose is too low right now and he seems to get good duration, with a few blue PSs here and there, so I am hopeful on BID.

Re: Alex - 7/17 --looking for a nadir in all the wrong place

I hope so, but looking back in his SS he has used much higher doses in the past and still got a pretty odd pattern. Maybe the new insulin will be different. Let's hope!

Re: Alex - 7/17 --looking for a nadir in all the wrong place

I'm glad you said to hold off TID as that would be impossible for me. It's hard enough being home everyday with BID.

With that being said, I did raise to .8 this morning, but the bad news was that DH didn't get a BG reading this morning. He poked and got blood, but not enough. He went to get another strip and Alex threw a hissy fit. I guess he was very hungry, so Stan fed him and skipped the poke altogether.

Seems Alex's appetite has been on the rise.

I feed meals just before shot time and then snacks at noon-ish and before I go to bed. Alex's sister Audrey is in house too, so I can't say exactly how much Alex eats, but I'm sure he's getting his share, and probably more.

Maybe if you knew how much and when Alex eats that might help you to make better sense of the numbers? If everyone isn't eating low carb food, then if Alex is helping himself throughout the day, and especially within a few hours of testing, you might be seeing a lot of food spikes. I don't know what you are feeding, but I know I definitely see a difference in Shaikha's numbers if she's had a snack within an hour of a test.
