Aldi canned food

I’ve not heard of it either, but whenever I find a food that’s not on Dr Lisa’s list, I look at the ingredients. If there are no high carb ingredients in the first 5 ingredients listed, you’re probably alright. Look for things like potato, peas, tapioca, corn, wheat, etc.
 
rice is an ingredient which seems to be a problem for Catcat -- ECID -- others seem to have no difference in BG when food includes that (most Friskies do), while Catcat has no troubles with potato ... so long as it's LC
 
Yes Aldi is an East coast store. Maybe just Southeast? We are in North Carolina. I know there are probably 10-15 locations within a 50 mile radius of us. It's not the same food that Trader Joe's carries. It's smaller cans and has a different ingredient list. We used to feed Trader Joe's, but the carb content is a little high. It was on Dr. Pierson's list.

Heart to Tail Ocean Whitefish and Tuna

First 5 ingredients: ocean Whitefish, meat byproducts, poultry by products, water sufficient for processing, animal liver
(Not the flavor I would buy, but the only ingredient list I could find online) Crude protein min is 11%.

Thanks for the suggestion Sharon. We're new to this and I used to buy grain free and no by products, but I'm learning that's not always good for diabetic kitties.
 
unfortunately, "grain free" may still include rice, potato, tapioca, peas, beets, carrots -- their idea that only corn, wheat, rye, oats, and perhaps barley are "grains"
IMHO, pumpkin is okay, often added as a supplement for digestive health

From that ingredients list, it looks ok. When in doubt try a few cans and see how Pumpkins BG responds.
 
I used to feed Bama the Aldi brands but he was not wild about them. He doesn't care for the fish flavors, will eat the beef and chicken but I don't like the fact that they add fish or fish broth to non-fish flavors. Many companies do that, however. I found this cat food calculator to be quite helpful in determining carb content. Just plug in the percentages of protein, fat, moisture, ash and fiber content off the label and you'll get a good idea of the carb content.
