Our newly adopted partially sighted (he has one eye and that is only partial sight) cat Star has now been integrated to our home alongside Snafu, but for the past few days he is coughing and a kind of bile is coming out when he coughs .. Im not an expert as we never had this with snafu .. so I dont know if this is a cat behaviour ie fur balls (Snafu coughed just before he got sick and the hopeless vet told me it was nothing when I knew it was something more serious and one week later he was admitted to hospital and stayed for a week - after I took him to a different vet and insisted they check him in detail thats when he was dx diabetic )
So with Star I dont know if we should go to a vet or if this is normal ?
As Snafu is now OTJ and he is FIV I dont want to take any chances with illness but dont want to seem paramoid either (which I am where snafu is concerned) we have almost lost him twice due to sever illness ..

Both my cats cough a couple of times a day but nothing comes out, I just chalk it up to a touch of asthma. Dusty will sometimes throw up in between meals when he's on an empty stomach and it'll be something like bile but in his case it's just stomach acid.

Hi, Janet - LOVE that photo of Snafu & his new buddy, Star! Sure do hope Star's cough is easily remedied - please keep us posted re: what you found out at the vet visit. Sending many healing vibes your way! :bighug:

P.S. So happy that Snafu remains OTJ & is doing so well!!!:cat:

Hi All, it seems that Star is fine, the vet said that it is just hairballs .... (I have never had this with Snafu) so he gave him some kind of medicine orally via a syringe in the mouth which he said should ease things and he gave me some tablets that need to be given over the next few days :nailbiting: never easy with a cat but they are tiny and I will try to put them in the food. This vet is very familiar with Star as her performed his eye surgery and had his records. So hopefully ...he will be fine :)
Star is cute and a little bit special and slow , and Snafu tries to scarf all the food ...but is seems to be working out nicely with the two of them.

Hi Janet, I'm really glad Star is okay. I love the pic of Snafu and Star on the stairs. Snafu looks like he's contemplating what kind of mischief he could get into, lol!

So happy to hear that it's hairballs instead of something serious! Am glad to hear that Snafu and Star are adjusting to living together, too.
Please keep us posted, Janet - is always great to hear how things are going. (Show us more photos any time, too!):)

Glad nothing seems out of sorts. I'd keep an eye on it, it does not sound like hairball symptoms and if there is a hairball causing coughing for days on end, it might be stuck.

The one time we had a cat coughing for days on end and we thought it was a hairball, on about day 5 she coughed and thick boogers came out around her eyeballs. She ended up having herpes or calicivirus (vets in disagreement on it) and got the rest of the house sick. She went into isolation for 3 weeks and one of our seniors ended up at the university vet hospital she got so sick. So I don't take coughing for more than a day or two lightly anymore:eek:
