Our cat Remus was Dx at the end of January following some dental work. To cut a long story short he ended up at the emergency vets for two days with high sodium values. They started him on Lantus and Hill's M/D while he was with them at 2U twice a day, which we have tried to stick with barring a few times when I totally panicked at his lower than usual numbers. We work during the day and being new to all of this and I worried about hypos, I also don't like that he is on the M/D but I worry about any changes to his diet right now (he is also weirdly picky for a cat who likes food so much)

He has been so good with all the testing we have been doing and having his Lantus injections twice a day and for the last two weeks has been drinking and peeing a lot less and been very much his usual self.

For the last two days his numbers have been lower and we thought we might be on to something good, but today they have been very high and this evening he has been drinking and peeing more than usual again. He's also not himself and it worries me. I tested his urine for ketones a few minutes ago and it was negative.

I have been reading this forum since his Dx and found so much valuable information. I don't know whether I should be worried over his current levels?

Are any members with more experience than us give their opinion on the BG numbers we have been seeing from him? I would really appreciate it.

Looks to me like Remus is just bouncing.

See how every time he gets into blue, he bounces high again the next cycle or two?

That's normal (although frustrating)

Bounces happen when they 1. drop too low, 2. drop too fast, 3. drop into numbers their body isn't used to anymore (or any combination of all 3)

Rufus's body has probably gotten used to living in higher numbers, so when the insulin pulls him down into better ones, his liver panics and releases stored sugars and hormones to bring him back up to where he's used to.

Bounces can take up to 6 cycles to clear

As he spends more time in better numbers, hopefully his liver will re-learn that it's OK to be there and he won't bounce as high and he'll clear his bounces faster.

I thought as much, but being so new to all of this I don't really know when I should be concerned.

Thank you for taking a look for us, it is appreciated :)
