ADVICE PLEASE - Acromegaly and Anesthesia?? Dangerous?

Hi I hope everyone is well and safe. I have been reading about Acromegaly and Anesthesia and if I am correct it is a definite NO!! Was wondering about your thoughts and experiences with this Thank you!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
Neko had several anaesthesia's, six for SRT, plus a couple dentals. There is no problem with the anaesthesia itself and acromegaly, provided the cat's heart can take it. The issue is that some acros have soft tissue growth in their throat or pharynx. That can mean that the normal tube's used for anaesthesia are too large, and a kitten sized tube needs to be used instead. I always mentioned it when Neko was going under anaesthesia, and the vet would check before putting in a tube. Her dental vet said her throat size was fine. I have heard of the odd cat that got a hoarse throat, which went away, but could have been caused by too large a tube. Later on, Neko's heart deteriorated to the point she could not have anaesthesia.

Hi Wendy Hope you and your loved ones are safe and well Amethyst I believe already has extra soft tissue growth in her throat and pharynx because she snores now. Also her breathing is already compromised with her Asthma:( I am asking because she was diagnosed with a Superficial Corneal Ulcer 3 months ago. She has no pain,no discomfort,no discharge BUT because she has 0 tear reduction ti still has not healed and it looks like there maybe a small Corneal Sequestrum on her Corneal.THank you!

I am praying for another Stimulus Payment Her last surgery 3 years ago was $3000 and it me 6 months to raise that! She can not get another grant from those organizations. Our vet did a recheck 2 months ago and the Superficial ulcer was still there I do not have the money to take her back to our EYE Specialist until we are sent more stimulus money I do not even know if it is another Corneal Sequestrum because it is so small and brown ?? That is why I have been reading so much and am asking for opinions here. The MSPCA Angel Memorial Site talks about other treatments not evolving General Anesthesia. I am still giving her all the medications our EYE Specialist put her on 3 months ago I am praying that the brown spots leaves. She has blood vessels there which are trying to get into it and heal it BUT I think she might need additional meds that only our EYE doctor can prescribe. So I am asking for prayers for her until we see him Thank you for all of your help and support:bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
For Leo, he had the throat and tongue growths. They eventually caused significant eating issues (along with lymphoma). Our vet was very aware of this. He died before encountering any heart issues.

We did limit his surgeries - just because it is so hard on them, and traumatic. He kept getting growths - like large warty growths. But those didn't bother him. And I don't think the throat growths bothered him with respect to anesthesia.

Hi Jeff Thank you again. I would prefer that she be treated with medication,she has the excess tissue in her throat and pharynx and she has Asthma:(:( PLUS like you said it is very traumatic for them Especially Amethyst because she is so timid and shy The way this EYE specialist does his surgeries is that all surgery pets have to be dropped off at 7:30AM BUT he does not start any surgery until 1PM after he has seen all of his morning appointments:arghh: Amethyst will not do well waiting like that so I am praying that this will disappear before I can make an appointment with him. She is in no pain or discomfort thank God!! Thanks again:bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
Yeah, the tissue growth was evaluated a lot by our very experienced cat-only vet. There was nothing to be done about it because it involved his salivary glands too. And you can't really remove those glands without causing major adverse issues.

I agree on waiting if possible. Those surgery conditions are certainly covid, but not very good for the patient. Hugs to you and your sweet kitteh.

Hi Pamela. Bronx had 5 days of anesthesia for his SRT around age 11. Xrays showed a slightly enlarged heart and had a slight murmur, but he had no issues with the anesthesia. They did suggest more tests on the heart before the SRT (I think it was an ultrasound), but I declined.

Hi Paul:bighug::bighug::bighug:Thank you I am praying that this one goes away with medication. She had the same procedure done 3 years ago and it traumatized her She is 7 now with ACRO and ASTHMA and I just do not want her to have to go thru more than she is already battling:(Hope you and your loved ones are well:) Thank you:bighug::bighug:
