Can someone take a look at my spreadsheet & give me some advice on what's going on? I can't get any daytime #'s until Sat but I can continue to get a +2 & +4 in the evening if I need to. Thanks!

What are you feeding, Barbara? Your signature says dry left out during the day? Can you switch that with frozen wet or wet with water added? Are you feeding Pro Plan still? Their carb counts really vary but some flavors are fine. http://binkyspage.tripod.com/CanFoodOld.html

I would get rid of the dry. (Oliver's numbers went down 100 points when we switched from wet to dry.)

And yes, we need that nadir (+6 numbers). It could be he is going down low and you need to reduce. It could be that he is flat over the cycle and he might need more. Can you set the alarm and get some nadir numbers at night?

That's quite a dip there from the 400s to the 100s the other day! To me it looks like Thumper's body is in the process of resetting what glucose values it calls 'normal'. His body has been so used to high numbers, that it thinks that is normal, so when the insulin kicks in and brings him down to the 100s it thinks the drop means hypo and the liver pumps out glycogen. I wouldn't raise the dose at all. Depending on what the nadir is this weekend, you might consider shaving the dose down to a 1.25u. Right now, it looks like it is a matter of holding the dose for the most part until the body settles down and stops fighting those drops.

I got some Fancy Feast Sunday & they are all liking it. I'm working on how to get rid of the dry & I was going to post over on the Health board for some more suggestions on how to do that without the others waking me up all night! I tried to put them on a "diet" once before since I have one that needs to loose weight & 2 of them would come wake me up all hours of the night!

Sue, I saw your suggestions on treats & I'm going to look for some of those. Thanks!

The +6 is a problem for me on week nights. I have this problem of staying asleep once I fall asleep so I don't want to wake myself on purpose. I have a hard time staying awake at work as it is and can't afford to loose any sleep. I will be able to get a +6 on Friday night & can do another curve on Sat. Thanks again!

You can freeze the wet and leave it out to thaw overnight. I use a silicone cupcake pan -a can of FF fits perfectly into each section. Then I pop them out and put them back in the freezer in a baggie. That way, they can graze on it. It also helps to put some water in the wet so it makes a kind of gravy. That helps with dehydration and makes the food last longer. It doesn't dry out and you can leave it out that way overnight.

If the +6 won't work until the weekend, then it won't. But we will expect lots of numbers starting Friday.

Is that Thumper in your avatar? She looks so cute and so lucky to have a mama bean taking such good care of her. Thumper is newly diagnosed and I do think there is a settling in period. Like Kelly, I wonder if 1.25u might help even out Thumper's pre shot #'s (depending on the nadir...something to try this weekend maybe). Feeding in a multi cat household with a diabetic can certainly be interesting. It's great that they are all liking the Fancy Feast. My Max was a die hard dry eater and took some coaxing to switch to wet. He loves it now though. For staving off the hungry ones in the night, have you tried leaving out extra food? I add water to Max's food and that helps keep it from drying out. Also, it just may take a little time for everyone to get used to the new diet and new feeding schedule.

Thanks! Yes, that is Thumper. I removed all dry food today & they acted like they were all starving when I got home! I wonder how much I should leave out? I'm getting ready to start a new post cause I've got a low PMPS....too low to give insulin!
