Hi,

I'm trying to figure out a new direction to go with my cat, Guinness and his food. He was recently diagnosed with a "slightly" inflamed pancreas based on an ultra-sound. He's never shown any symptoms of a flare up or attack from my perspective, but he recently has come out of a 2 year remission in regards to his diabetes. His vet is starting to think of ways to help him, including pain relief, anti-inflammatories and prescription food. I'm not interested in the prescription food and want to find a ways to help him in that department on my own.

I currently feed, and have fed for the past 2 years, Merrick's Cowboy Cookout (I sometimes add a small amount of other flavors of various low carb foods too). Merrick CC is one of the food recommended for Pancreatic cats, so I'm already doing a lot toward helping the problem.

In the past, I've tinkered with Raw and once used TCFeline Instincts Plus to mix with some premium ground chicken. He liked that, but I found it labor intensive and could never really find any good numbers in regards to protien, carbs and fat for that product. Does anyone out there know if this is a good choice for a diabetic/pancreatic cat? Does anyone know the true values for this premix or another one out there that might be a better choice?

Thank you in advance for any thoughts in regards to these premix products!

The premix has very little, if anything, to do with the P/F/C content. That issue is determined by the meat/fat/skin that you use.

Don't get carried away with making a diet TOO low in fat, however. Fat is a very important part of the cat's diet.

Thank you for the reply. So, even though some of these mixes contain dried chicken liver, etc. I shouldn't worry too much about the P/C/F contents when it comes to feeding my diabetic cat? Are you family with these premixes (I know you do your own homemade version). Also, I'm probably trying to keep their fat content under 35% based on what I've read so far in regards to pancreatitis. I'm just so confused about food right now and don't know what direction to go in. I seem to start down the raw path, run into difficulties, feline food rejection, bacteria issues, time constraints and I freak out, stop it and go back to their Cowboy Cookout.
