Advice needed - Cerenia Administration

Hello,
Wondering if anyone can provide some advice/clarity regarding Cerenia Administration and dosing.

Mister's appetite has been off for the last week along with diarrhea and general "not feeling well" type behavior. Finally took him in to the vet yesterday, ran full blood chemistry panel and physical exam and found no obvious answers or causes for concern. Vet noticed symptoms of nausea and administered Cerenia, then sent me home with tablets to follow up. Said to give him an entire tablet (weight is currently 10 lbs 4 oz). Is this dosage standard (tablets are only license for canine use so the package insert is unhelpful) and any advice on administering them? They made me a pill pusher but does anyone have success with crushing/mixing into food or just wrapping it in food?
Thanks! Wish I knew why he was feeling so crummy hoping getting his appetite back will do the trick.
 
How many mg is each tablet? It comes in different sizes/mg.
Dosage is:
Cerenia is dosed at roughly 0.5 mg per pound (1 mg/kg) orally

Veterinarians generally prescribe Cerenia for cats in a dosage of 1 mg per kilogram of the cat’s body weight, or about 0.45 to 0.5 mg per pound, administered once every 24 hours. This can vary based on the size of the cat and the severity of their symptoms.

I know they come in 16 mgs and 24 mgs, which mgs did the vet give you.
I wouldn't crush them up and mix them in good they are so very bitter and your cat will foam at the mouth if he gets a taste of them.
I did a search here and found this suggested to a member
Does she like cheese? Some people use cheese to wrap pills.
I used to use gel caps to give one of my cats cerenia size 5

If Mister is nauseous
Ondansetron is a human medication and the vet will need to write you a script and you would get it at a pharmacy. Ondansetron can be given three times a day and is better for nausea than cerenia. Cerenia is better for vomiting

I can tag some other members for you about his appetite being off for the last week, diarrhea and not feeling well

They are 16 mg tablets....so if I am understanding the dosage correctly at 10 lbs 4 oz an entire tablet would be more than double the usual dosage?

He gave me the 16 mg tablets, he likes just about anything to eat so I am thinking about some deli meat ect, I read that cheese could impact the absorption on the Cerenia so might not be the best choice but if that's what it takes to get it down the hatch still better than not at all. Thank you for the info on the taste...I was afraid of that and with his appetite already decreased I don't want to put him off his food any more than he already is.

I hope Mister starts to feel better ,the deli meat might work :cat:
 
Have you tried pill pockets? They work really well for my sugar boy.I buy the greenis chicken flavor ones.You also might want to ask for an appetite stimulant mirtaz an oniment for the ear or cyproheptadine which is a human appetite stimulant.
