Advice from Customer service(One touch verio iq meter )

I’ve been doing home test for my diabetic cat Dongdong. I got my first Once touch verio iq meter. The lancet tool doesn’t work so I got a Accu-chek aviva meter that comes with a lancet multiclick that's so easy to use. Since I got 2 meters I use both meters with the multiclick lancet. The Once touch verio iq always show error messages and ask me to change the strips. It happen so often that I sometimes need to change 3 or 4 strips before I could get a reading from this meter. Also the numbers are so different between the 2 meters. I understand that within 20% difference is acceptable but 87% must be something wrong. nailbite_smile

I contact the customer service on One touch verio iq and let them know the problems. It might be it is only my meter or the strips that are not good. I have no problem with my other Accu-chek aviva meter. The answer I got was the OneTouch® Meters are not intended to be used for testing on animals.

The LifeScan OneTouch® Meters are required by federal law to be licensed for use in Canada. This license is approved for the following intended use: for the quantitative measurement of glucose (sugar) in fresh capillary whole blood samples drawn from the fingertips or palm. Venous whole blood samples may be used by healthcare professionals (OneTouch® VerioTM IQ Blood Glucose Monitoring System only).

The OneTouch® VerioTM IQ Blood Glucose Monitoring System is intended for self-testing outside the outside the body (in vitro diagnostic use) by people with diabetes at home and by healthcare professionals in a clinical setting as an aid to monitor the effectiveness of diabetes control.

While we do understand that even pets can develop diabetes, the OneTouch® Meters are not intended to be used for testing on animals. We would suggest talking to your veterinarian to discuss a possible course of action in assisting and monitoring your pet's condition. LifeScan has never condoned the use of its products on animals.

None of the human glucometers is intended for animals.

We can still use them if they give consistent results showing upward and downward trends.

Thanks BJM. I read this report before I got my second Accu-chek aviva meter. :-D

My reply to them is that they may not be aware that the pet diabetes market are getting bigger and bigger. There are thousands of cats and dogs with diabetes and pet owners test their pets' blood glucose at home with blood glucose testing meters on the market. Their response suggests that the company has no desire to take part in the pet diabetes market. I believe a corporation that takes responsibility to rectify errors and listens to its customers to improve its products quality would be much more successful than one that ignores customer rights and makes excuses to avoid responsibility. They have chosen to eliminate one customer and there will be more to loose.

Anyway, I am happy that I can keep track of my cat's BG numbers now and I am really thankful to the nice people here. I got a lot of info and feel much much better than when my cat got dx this Sept.
 
When I have had problems with my meter (One Touch Ultra), I told them that it was my meter and I was using it. I never told them I was using it on a cat or they would have refused to assist.

Next time, I suggest you tell them that it's your meter and you are testing yourself and getting xyz problems. They will be most happy to help, I bet you!

I know what to say next time. I won't be using this meter anymore. I though I could help them to improve their products.
The Accu-chek is better and cheaper.
