Orion's glucose has never been in the 500s until this weekend. The vet recommended increasing him to 3u when I could monitor. He got 3u this morning but his +6 hasn't dropped significantly enough in my opinion. If you look at his history, he was doing great at 2.5u for a while but I backed off when he had a hypo. When he was diagnosed in August my gut said Lantus but the vet said Prozinc. I'm wondering if I should have gone with my gut. The vial was purchased in Aug and always been refrigerated. I roll it before filling the syringe. Is the insulin still effective? Is Orion on the right insulin for him? What do we do? His numbers need to go down.

Hard to say for sure - could be that the bouncing put him in high numbers and now he's stuck there. There's also the chance that your insulin is losing potency even though you've stored it properly. Or Orion is at a point where he needs a higher dose. I think it's still to early to say that ProZinc isn't going to work for Orion. Your curve on 10/29 looks quite good.

I agree it is hard to know. I think raising the dose to 3 units is a good idea. I'd hold it awhile and try to get
all the data you can.

Nothing else going on? No infections/ bad teeth?

The manufacturer says that the Prozinc is good for 60 days once it has been punctured. Although some people have been able to use it longer it is at a questionable time period. There is no way to know if the insulin was handled correctly at each stage before it got to you. However it still hard to asy whether Orion may have dropped lower at some point recently and this could be bouncing. That 517 at AM +7 yesterday does not fit in with the other numbers, especially when the numbers dropped afterwards. It could have been a bad reading which can happen or it could have been a bounce clearing. Let's see if others can weigh in in this,
