Hello All!
I'm still in beautiful Santa Cruz, CA and I'm not leaving tomorrow. My mom called this afternoon with a question. She got called into work tomorrow at 6am-11am (she's usually off on Saturdays). Zoozey normally gets his shot at 7am. I told her to go ahead and give him his am shot right before she leaves for work at 5:45 because there's it's either this or no shot at all. However, do we need to transition him back to 7am/pm or can we just go ahead and give him his shot at 7pm? I'm really hoping for the latter, but I'm going to do whatever's best for Zoozey.

If it's possible, can someone please answer before 1:30 pacific time (3:30 central time)? I would really really appreciate the advice. My flight leaves at 1:50, and I don't land until well after 7pm, so I need to let my mom know something before I take off.

Hi Zoozey's Mom,
I'm no expert, and Midnight was newly diagnosed as diabetic this past December, but a couple of times we've needed to give him his shot either an hour earlier or hour later and didn't experience any adverse effects. My vet said as long as it's around the normal "hour" then it should be fine.

Best of luck!

In general, we advise time changes for Lantus or Levemir to be no more than 30 minutes per day, total.

Due to the depot effect,
- An earlier shot acts like a dose increase, so you might see lower numbers and need to manage them, depending on how low they go.
- A late dose acts like a dose decrease, so you might see higher numbers.

Better too high for a day than too low for a moment.

I believe he was 249 around 11 or 12. I'll tell her to go ahead and shoot 15 minutes later than she did this morning. I've got to transition him to 6:30 am anyway since the semester is about to start.

to some extent it depends on the cat. My Tiggy is fine with up to an hour, and for more than an hour, I will adjust the dose a TINY amount. (less if I know the next shot will be early)

His numbers have been all over the place lately, I don't know what's going on with him. My mom transitioned him back to his regular time, because that seemed like the safest route and he seems to be feeling pretty good. He's certainly in good spirits. Although he's going to be super mad at me tomorrow because I'm taking him and my other cats back to Arlington tomorrow. He HATES being in his carrier and he REALLY HATES being in his carrier in the car, so that will probably make his numbers increase. Again. sigh...

Well lets see what happens when you get him home. But got any more recent updates we can see? the SS is very out of date.

Wendy
