Good Evening.
I think I need some experience advice on Baxter's numbers. The last couple of nights his numbers have been low. So now I am scared to give him the advice dose from the vet. Vet told me on friday (Dec 2) to continue with .50 ProZInc. The other night he drop to 70 with .50. So the next morning I gave him .25 because he was at 172. Followed with .25 in the evening which dropped him to 77.
Am I doing the right thing by adjusting the insulin?
I don't know what to think about his numbers. I don't think I am ever going to understand. It seems like a number game a car salesman wouldn't be ale to figure out. grr_red

Baxter SS is current if anyone would like to take a look and give me some feedback.
Thank you.

I think you are doing a great job dosing and Baxter is doing well on small doses. It is tricky dosing the smaller numbers and you are doing fine.

He seems to bounce from lower numbers at night. That might account for your higher numbers during the day. You might explore why he goes down at night. Less exercise or more? Less food or more? Sometimes feeding overnight can even out the numbers.

I would also suggest posting over in the PZI forum. Everyone there uses your insulin and several people are doing mini dosing.

He might get a little more exercise in the evenings. Food amount is the same as AM.
Before Baxter being DX (Nov 12) I would give him a little food at 12am usually dry. A side from his 8:00 feedings. Now I don't give him anything at midnight. The last 2 nights he has dropped to the 70's he has come to me wanting food. So I tested him & thats when I found out he was dipp'n in the 70's. He was telling me he needed food to get his BG up a bit...I guess. I don't know.

Can you leave some food out for him at night? You could freeze some or use a timed feeder. That might keep him from being lower at night. And then bouncing in the am.

But 70 is not dangerously low. 40 is when we intervene with higher carb food. His numbers are amazing for a new diabetic.

People do it different ways. Some feed twice a day. Some let them graze during the day and night thinking it helps support the pancreas. It's one of those Every Cat is Different things.

Just be sure he doesn't get food closer than 2 hours before eating so it doesn't impact his bg tests.

I replied on PZI also.

Ok thank you I didn't know that about 2 hours before. I don't think he really would graze. Specially during the day. When he is done he is done. A night is different because in the "dark days" I would leave dry out for him after 12am & in the morning it would be gone. He has his days & nights mixed up...silly cat.
