Just when I was certain I couldn’t possibly feel more inadequate I have a new skill to try: squirting buprenophine onto Tammuz (my non diabetic cat) gums. Sounds straightforward but I’m exhausted and slept standing at the sink yesterday so…

I’m pretty sure he will spit it back at me or let it drip out of his mouth. Does anyone have some helpful tips ?

Can you squirt it on a toothbrush and brush his gums? Or maybe one of those finger rubber stimulaters that you use on a teething baby? How much liquid?

Squirt it into the cheek pouch (between gums and the tissue of his cheek) or sublingual. Some might get spit out but that’s ok. If you want to try sublingual, try under the side of the tongue toward the back.

Not much, 0.15 ml. I doubt the toothbrush but maybe the finger thing will work. Looks easy on you tube. Of course getting blood from a cats ear also looked easy on you tube.

You can see in there enough to have a selection from which to choose ? I bet you can also get your cat to pee in a cup :)
I tried looking and I couldn’t pry his lips apart.

yes, I’m not the one in charge in this house….

You don’t have to open their mouth (or pry apart their teeth). Just grab some lip on the side, pull outward a bit, and slide the syringe in and squirt. It’s supposed to be absorbed by the mucous membranes, not swallowed, but it’s ok if they swallow a little.

They make injectable bupe (or used to anyway). I found that easier and more reliable from a dosing perspective. [had to remind myself that this is for your non-diabetic so the skin issue isn’t in play when considering shots]

I used bupe for Howie and had it compounded as a cream I could rub on his ear so it was absorbed that way. There was no way I was going to get liquid in his mouth! I suggest it when you get a refill. It was so much easier.

I got Neko's buprenorphone compounded chicken flavour. She preferred the chicken soup to the roast chicken one.. Anyway, made it much easier to give.
