Although there is no doubt that blood glucose testing is the optimal way to adjust insulin dosages, some people truly cannot home test with a glucometer for various reasons.

The main FelineDiabetes.com site has the information on adjusting insulin dosages using urine testing: http://www.felinediabetes.com/bg-pstrip.htm

Collecting the urine can be a bit of a challenge, too. Some people use the Smart Cat Box or other methods to collect urine. Dr. Lisa, our resident veterinary expert, has made an excellent video of how to train your cat to allow urine collection with a spoon. This video is available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIUBFF-VyRU Thanks, Dr. Lisa!!

If anyone here is using the "alternative" testing method of urine strips, could you please identify yourself here or PM or email me? It is critically important that we don't let knowledge about this method be ignored and that we help others who need to use the method.

As you know I used this method for many months, and while it is not as accurate, it is manageable.
If you need my help I would gladly assist..
As you know I used the strips and the purina Glucotest, which was also effective..
Moonie was a very tough kitty to test, but finally we were able to--If anyone needs me Just PM or find me in the lantus forum!

Thanks, Roni! I know this is a less preferable method of testing but we really need to keep it out there as an option.
