Hi folks! I need to order the next bottle of Adequan for Akie, and was wondering what the price might approximately be (difficult to tell from vet bill as had a bunch of huge syringes) -- and what places people would recommend to buy it from in the US. I'm guessing CVS doesn't stock it.

Also, importantly, is the adequan for dogs and cats the same?

Thank you.

I just got a bottle from a vet. They charged $112 and gave me 10 syringes with it, enough for the whole vial. I do see that Drs. Fosters & Smith is selling for $69.99. Rufus was given the canine version.

Thanks, Sean! Was this a 5 ml vial? My vet charged $62 for a 5 ml vial and a bunch of syringes (not sure how many, guessing 8). I was just exploring on the web, and it looks like adequan is officially only prescribed (has clearance for) for horses and dogs right now, so I'm guessing that's why there's none labeled specifically for cats and all the ones online are for dogs. Maybe I'll just get it from the vet -- looks like they have the best price!

Yes, 5ml vial. Yeah Adequan is not FDA approved for cats  and you need a script. I had to call around and on the 1oth vet I believe allowed for adequan for cats. None other others would.

And you we're given a good deal! This vet did say I could have brought him in for each injection at no cost or I could take the syringes and do it myself. I opted to do at home because they are 30 mins away, otherwise I might have taken that option! (I don't like the bigger needles for some reason!)

Thanks again, Sean. Yeah, that does sound like a super good deal, so think I'll just get it from the vet. Are you located in the Los Angeles/Burbank area? If so you should get it from my vet, lol.

And my vet said SubQ is almost as good, so I'm also doing it at home -- going to be using insulin injections from next shot on, as they're so much thinner. Akie definitely feels that big fat needle from the vet's syringes :(.

No, I'm close to Minneapolis :) Oh, I told the vet I wasn't comfortable doing into muscle, and he said for cats and some dogs they do it subq. Thank God! Rufus' dose is 50 ml! Not sure if that would fit in a normal syringe! I haven't even looked at it, Rufus just had his 1st ever adequan on Thursday.

Woah, 50 ml? How much does he weigh? Akie weighs about 10 1/2 lb and is getting 20 ml -- initial loading dose of 2 shots a week subq.

The U-100 syringe I use goes up to only 30 units, so that would not work for you :).

How long have you been giving Rufus Adequan? Does it seem to be helping? It's been 2 1/2 weeks with Akie, and no improvement so far. Also giving her Dasuquin once a day + turmeric + Glycoflex3 once a day.

Yup, he's a big boy! He is a large framed cat, but need to lose 3 or 4 pounds. We just started the Adequan this last Thursday. We are doing 2 shot a week for a month, and then monthly depending on his needs the vet said. He did jump up on the couch today, first time in a couple weeks. Seemed to stress him less. I think the bigger thing is jumping down might be hurting him more. I also think that he "remembers" that it hurt to jump. Hopefully that part goes away too.
