I'm interested in hearing of spectacular results of Adequan (or cartrophen) used SQ. I've tried it SQ in my cat and wasn't too impressed, but obviously it doesn't work in every cat. I am considering trying another series IM ...

Thanks!

Hi Jess!

I started Zoe on Adequan SQ just last week......she got her 4th injection this afternoon. She is doing well.....yesterday she jumped up to the breakfast bar someplace she hasn't been in a few months.....so I think it is working. She seems steadier in her back legs when she is walking on the bed or couch and is jumping without so much hesitation.....she doesn't seem to think about jumping to a chair or at least not as much.

Have a great evening.....and good luck if you decide to try it again.

I just started Adequan for J.D. He gets his 7th bi-weekly shot tomorrow. The vet showed me how to give it IM. I did okay the 1st shot, and on the 2nd shot he squirmed and growled at me so I ended up giving that one SQ, but all the rest I managed to do IM. He seems to trot a lot more and walk faster, and his jumps up onto the couch seem to be easier.
I had tried Cosequin earlier in the year and just didn't see much change in him.
So far, I am happy with the Adequan.

Carly has spinal arthritis in the lumbo-sacral joint, and in both knees and elbows, elbows.

I have not done it IM with Carly. Hope had sent me a link about it only being IM, not subQ. I talked to the vet who prescribed it and she was comfy with it SubQ.

Carly was on every 2 weeks but clearly showed pain and limping after one week, so i started doing it every week subq. Prior to the Adequan, she had been yelping in the litterbox, and yelping after jumping on the tree while trying to sit/settle. she does that every so often now, usually right before her next subq shot is due. So I feel that it has helped her a lot. She also gets Dasuquin once a day.

Jess, Gandalf's acupuncture vet injected it into "wet" acu points surrounding his hips. She also does this with B12 injections. You might investigate those options. I believe the combo of acu and Adequan kept Gandalf from becoming debilitated because of arthritis in his lower spine and hips.
