I just picked up Jake's Adequan and asked the vet to convert his dosage so that I can use the u100 syringes I have left over. Using those syringes, he is to get 19 units one time per week for eight weeks and then one time per month thereafter. The 19 units sounds like a lot to me, but I am sure I still have insulin on the brain which is whole different story. Does 19 units sound right to you?

Thanks for your input!!

I don't know how the dosage decision is made, but that sounds about right. My vet was very conservative, and said to give 12 units (I give 15) and I have heard of others giving 30 units.
I was to give the doses twice a week for 4 weeks,
Once a week for 4 weeks,
Every other week for 4 weeks,
And then, I guess once a month, thereafter. I'll have to call my vet about this, as we just gave out 4th every other week shot on Saturday.

No that's fine. My tiny Sugar got 16 u and Pearl (10 lbs) got 26u (u100 syringes). It's not like insulin. It's really a bit weird giving it at first if you are used to a tiny insulin amount!!! But it was really easy. I just did it in the scruff tent, no problem. I believe it is dosed by weight.

My cat has just been started on Adequan last week. The dosage is always based on weight and it's 2 mg per pound of weight. If you're using a U-100 syringe, 1 mg equals 1 unit. My cat weighs 18 pounds so he's on 36 mg (36 UNITS!!!!). I use an insulin needle that holds more units (instead of using the typical 3/10 cc, I use a 1/2 cc which holds 50 units). He just keeps his head buried in his food bowl while I shoot all that into one side and then shoot his insulin into the other side.
