Hello there,
I want to get Malachai tested for IGF-1 and IAA. He's currently at 7units and has never seen blue.
I'd like to go into the vet prepared with some testing information and even prices.
I'm reading a lot of threads on this however cannot find any active links that send me to the information from Michigan University.
Does anyone know where or how I can get the prices for these tests or more information to give my vet?
I've read they test on Wednesday only and to send the blood with ice packs FedEx overnight. I have no other information than that.

Thank you in advance,

Deena and Malachai

The testing is done at Michigan State University. There is information in this sticky from the Acro/IAA/Cushings forum. I don't think the comment about the growth hormone test is correct, though. A number of people have gotten acro results from MSU recently. This is the direct link to the veterinary lab at MSU. There is a tab for their fee schedule for Insulin Autoantibody for insulin resistance (IAA is $17.00) acro (Insulin-like Growth Factor-1, IGF-1 is $55). The tests are listed in the Endocrinology section of the fee schedule. It is sometimes helpful to call regarding the specific details of shipping to them. Some of the testing they do is conducted only once a week and since you're typically on pins and needles waiting for the results, it can help to have the timing correct. Likewise, since shipping things like blood samples to university labs can be tricky if you don't have the address exactly right, you don't want your sample sitting on a loading dock.

For the MSU tests the samples need to be sent cold. I believe they run the tests on Wednesdays. I gave the vet the order form and instructions and they handled the blood draw and shipping. I would recommend getting both done since shipping is the bulk of the cost. It was around $200 for me to have the blood draw, shipping and testing done.

The MSU costs are what it costs the vet, but the vet will most likely charge more. My vet charged $118.25 for the IGF-1, $36.55 for the IAA, and $40 for shipping.
