Hi All,

I have a technical question about human vs. feline diabetes management. Humans get an A1c Hemoglobin Test around every 3 months to see how well their diabetes is being managed. Is there a similar test for felines? Is this the fructosamine test? Is it even necessary if you're home-testing?

Thanks!

Yes, the fructosamine test is the feline equivalent. Is it necessary? That is up to you. I am a human diabetic and use both a meter and A1c. The A1c and fructosamine tests can only tell you an average, not the highs and lows. The meter can only show you the current BG and you can miss nighttime or post meal highs and lows. If budget is an issue and you can only afford one, I would definitely go with the meter.
