A Visit from Muffin!

Hello LL! Long time no post for me, but I do lurk for periods of time, mostly when I'm missing Muffin especially badly. I feel closer to her here.

I truly believe Muffin came and visited me this afternoon! I was relaxing in bed watching TV, with Oscar in his usual napping spot on the bed, and Rumpy (the drooler) lying next to me. Shnookie was downstairs in his usual napping spot on the sofa, Sam was in her/DD's room with the door closed. DD had left to go pick up the DGD's from school. Rumpy went right outside my bedroom door and started whimpering and whining the way he does when someone is here that he wants to see. Wondering what was going on, I called him back to the bed. He went right back to the doorway and started again. No one else was in the house. I called him back to the bed again, wondering why he was acting so strangely. Then there was a thump under my bed, and some noises like there was a cat under there. It wasn't just me that heard and felt all this. Oscar jumped up from his nap, eyes wide open, neck stretched out, peering and walking slowly toward the edge of the bed. The dog was alert to it, as well. After a few minutes of nothing happening, Oscar curled up and went back to sleep. About 5 minutes later, the window perch fell off the window. This window perch was originally Muffin's, until Oscar took it over. It has fallen down once before, when Oscar was on it, but only the one time. (My desk is right underneath it, so it doesn't fall to the floor or anything, just comes unglued from the windowsill and sinks about 6 inches to the desk.) When that happened, a couple things fell off the desk, and I was waiting for the panic-stricken cat to tear out of the room. But there was no cat. There was nothing there. The only explanation I can come up with is that it had to be Muffin. This past week I've really been missing her a lot, so I'm just thrilled that she came to see us!

In other news, we've put Cleetus on kitty prozac because of his spraying all over the house. It really seems to be helping with that, plus he's a lot more affectionate with us all, people and animals. Odin, the stray who adopted us is getting a little too comfortable around here. Even though I had him neutered many months ago, he's really territorial, and believes the garage belongs to him. I can't allow him in the house, because as it is, he causes enough trouble with the other cats. He and Shnookie don't get along AT ALL. It's so bad that I can't even let Shnookie in and out of the house thru the garage any more. When Odin sees him he just starts growling immediately. They get into spats several times a week. Cleetus like to attack Odin, and lately Odin does that prey chatter thing whenever he sees Oscar. I'm seriously considering talking to the vet about putting Odin on the prozac, too.

On the plus side, it's been wonderful watching Odin blossom. He took to my DD and I pretty quickly, but showed no interest whatsoever in getting aquainted with any other people. He would just hide under the car when anyone else came around. Then he started sitting on our laps in the garage, and since the weather's been warmer he's lately starting to lay in the sun and occasionally roll on the cement. Over the last month or so, he's even getting less skittish around other people. It's wonderful to see him letting his guard down enough to act like a cat!
