So Shadow has been on no insulin ever and diagnosed a week ago with diabetes and sugar in his urine... we changed his diet to only high protein canned, low carb and last night his home glucose test was 77 and this a.m b4 food 158. From what I've read this is still high but isn't that a pretty good number compared to his 360 one at the vet's? I don't want to get my hopes up that he is insulin - free forever....

I agree with Sue, do not give any insulin. For newbies, we recommend not giving insulin if the BG reading is less than 200. However, do not be surprised when your evening pre-shot reading is high. This is normal when a shot is skipped and nothing to worry about.

Thanks Sue and Lisa,
Sorry I'm posting all over the place, wasn't sure if my new info/questions would be buried in the other post. :)

Shadow has never been on insulin so that would be great if his diabetes could be controlled by diet alone.

Today at 3:30pm I was able to do my 3rd blood glucose test on him and it was 69 before he ate.

woo woo!

Sounds like he's bouncing around a bit, so you'll want to wait to give insulin until he gives you consecutive readings at around 200....and if you do give insulin then only a tiny tiny bit!
