Is there a chart for Prozinc that shows what the dosing should be for what the BG level is.....we started out 3 years ago with 2.5.....we've been at 2.....we're trying to regulate to 1, but it's looking like 1.5 might be the magic number....but how do we know how much to give....like this morning, he was 246....we debated whether to give 1 or 1.5.......thinking 1.5 might make him too low, we opted for 1....then when we test at lunch, he's higher, which kinda tells me, we should have given 1.5? Kinda seems to me that we're dosing blindly, like not testing before shooting.....HELP! Thanks :)

I'm not a dosing expert but what I have gathered from keeping track of my cat on his SS and looking carefully at many others is that every cat is different and an individual cat will be different at different times in his diabetes journey. For one cat 1 unit might work if BG is, say, 300, whereas for another cat that BG might need a dose of 4 units to bring it lower. That can also happen in an individual cat at different times along the way. So - for ProZinc there isn't a chart of values to consult that says if BG is X then give dose Y.

A detailed SS is how you learn what your cat needs at the point he happens to be at with his FD. By looking over trends you get some indication of what dose to try. That's why there's so much emphasis on the SS and testing on FDMB. It's all about data gathering. Some cats show an obvious and predictable pattern quite readily and others will keep you guessing a lot of the time. The more data, the more educated the guesses.

Kris explained the process perfectly. Looking at your spreadsheet, he seems to drop well with 1.5 on a red preshot (like he did for this morning's number.) msom that looks like a good dose for that level. I'd suggest that less insulin would be needed for a 246 - just like you did this morning. He is higher mid cycle today, but one unit worked well for the 247 a few days ago. He might drop again for pmps, or it might just be a little flatter and higher cycle.

So, although it feels like you are just giving insulin, I'd say you are doing a great job. He has gotten some nice preshot numbers and the ss has more blues and yellows than before.

The hard part, for me at least, is the odd numbers. Like your 330 today. He could have dropped early; he could be bouncing a little from a lower number overnight, or he could have seen a squirrel . Unless you are getting a curve, it is sometimes hard to figure out what one number in the cycle means. So you just look at the general pattern and give doses that make sense based on his previous levels. And some never become very predictable - look at Teasel's spreadsheet. I think you are doing fine. If you want some input on a dose, post your preshot number twice daily and ask others what they might do.

I think you'd said you feed wet, low carb, right? You might add that to your signature so we don't ask all the time.

Added :) We do feed wet, ff classic, and we give the 100% freeze dried chicken as a treat...

Looks like he cleared the bounce. You can always shoot earlier tonight, if you skip. As long as it doesn't mess up your schedule.

Must be the moon - everyone (Steph, Kris, Angela) all got a lower than usual amps this morning. Check out other's threads this am.
