a grumpy pancreas

So my little Scamp is living up to her name - as usual!! She has been bouncing a lot lately and I have had issues getting her settled in to steady numbers. She just went on Friday to see the vet and, because the vet is away until Wednesday, I can't get her actual lab numbers until then. But the technician gave me a bit of an analysis. Tiny kidney change that is age appropriate and a high glucose (we knew that - she was stressed and was at 2.0 (36) the night before 6 hours after her shot) but the tech said Scamp has a "grumpy pancreas" - I will speak with the vet on Wednesday

But this is the place to get the information from experience - does anybody have any ideas on how to help my little girl??

Do you have an up to date SS? I can only see numbers from 2015.

With a reading of 2 (36) did you reduce the dose?l
If she was high at the vet she could have been bouncing from the low the night before.

Hi and welcome to FDMB.
I agree with Bron that BG may have been high at the vet's due to both stress (most don't like the vet) and from the low the night before but without any current BG information to look at it's really not possible to give you any advise other than I too would have reduced the dose after the low BG reading. Don't have the foggiest clue what a "grumpy pancreas" means.

If you can update the spreadsheet with some current BG information, we'd love to help you get your lovely little lady on a better path.

i think my vet and I agree that her bounces are because of an old bottle of pro zinc that was past its prime and a brand new bottle that is working beautifully. In order to get her numbers better I was increasing her dose with the old bottle but when I changed to the new bottle I didn’t reduce the dose fast enough. I am not really worried about the diabetes but I am stressed about her pancreas which , when the vet palpated it caused her pain. I am just wondering if anyone has experience with pancreatitis or any other pancreas issues and could offer some advice.

I don't have any specific experience with pancreatitis but sounds like the vet would have run bloodwork to check for pancreatitis with abdomen being tender. I'd suggest you get a copy of the labs from the vet when you can and plot them into the spreadsheet. Your spreadsheet is an older version so you'd have to download a newer version which has a lab tab on it for precisely that purpose and you could keep current BG readings on the new sheet.

Pancreatitis is common in diabetic cats and it can and does affect BG levels. Treatment is usually symptomatic including anti nausea meds, appetite stimulants and pain medication.

Has Scamp been eating normally or have lack of appetite? Any signs of nausea? Lethargic? All of these are commonly seen with pancreatitis.

As cute as the "Grumpy Pancreas" is, you might get more of a specific response if you mention pancreatitis specifically.

I haven’t wanted to say pancreatitis yet for two reasons - I haven’t got the labs yet for one and for two I want to keep my blinders on for a few more days She doesn’t have any symptoms for pancreatitis other than the touchy pancreas. She does have the five Ps down pat although she’s not playing as much as usual. She has a terrific appetite and the only time she vomits is when she’s in the car going for a car ride. I just know that having an issue with a pancreas will be painful for her and I want to try and fix that.

That's fine. I understand. Just keep that title business in your back pocket if it is pancreatitis. That's a good "whole" kitty report. Chronic pancreatitis comes and goes so there are periods with no symptoms. Not sure if the pancreas would be tender on palpation without other symptoms of a flare. See what the vet has to say and then go from there. Other than supportive treatment during a flare, I don't think there is much else you can do.
