A bit of a testing issue

well another little dilemma has developed. The past two days when I have tested Rex he is getting very cranky about it. I would normally put out just a tiny bit of treat to get him to come to the testing spot. The last two nights he stands afar and looks at the treat but won't come close to get the treat and turns around to run and hide when he sees me sit in the testing spot. I have gone to get him and given him the treat (usually hamburger). Yesterday he ate it but tonight he didn't even want to eat it, just wanted to get away. I sat him down on my lap both nights and got swatted at and some growling and lost a little blood of my own. I still managed to get the tests done but not sure how this is affecting the numbers (tonight they were higher than they typically have been lately) and really don't want him to get to the point that when he sees the treat (which obviously at this point is NOT being considered a treat anymore) he wants to retreat. What do I do? Take a break from it for a few day? Or? I finally thought we were in a comfortable routine. He was so good and seemed calm and was very cooperative. It was getting to be so quick and easy. Not sure what changed.

My buddy Lou, for the most part, is a good kid when it comes to testing. However, I have noticed when I would increase testing, he would start running and hiding or trying to get away before or while I'm trying to test. I believe (in my experience at least) that he starts getting testy when his ears are sore. I finally went out and got some Neosporin Ointment plus Pain Relief to use on him every so often, and I can tell it works right away. Some of the starch goes out of his spine while I'm putting it on and he'll allow me to touch his ears, so it seems to take effect right away. I will generally put some on at night (not every day, but especially after an increase in testing) and leave on overnight. I'm not sure if sore ears could be Rex's problem, but it would be worth a shot to try some Neosporin. :cat:

Very good tip. I usually do it in the same ear just because it works easier for me with that earned that ear seems to be good at giving me blood, but maybe it is getting sore. Will give your suggestion a try. Thank you.

If it makes you feel better, cc growled at me Last night when I was testing too, and she's normally pretty chill as you can see in the video.

Beenie had recently started walking away and didn't want to be tested. What I discovered was a change in "treats". I was giving her Orijin freeze dried but it wasn't doing the trick. I now give her a pinch of FF naturals (chicken) and she LOVES it. She's back to coming over to test spot soon as I throw the rice sock in the microwave. It may be worth trying a different treat to see if that helps entice, although hamburger does sound like a good one;)
