Hello,

I'm not sure I am in the right forum so I apologize in advance if I am not.

Felix just tested at 93 and I need advice on whether or not to shoot. I have been giving .1 but he is a little low and I'm afraid to give him any insulin.

Please advice,

Thanks!

Sandy

If you're giving lantus you're probably in the right forum. If you go back and edit your post to add a question mark to let people know you need advice you will get some eyes on your post.

I'm sorry you didn't get the advice you wanted last night.
I agree with Serryn, if you add the ? icon to the Subject Line of your first post, you will get more eyes helping you. You can also add the words "Dose Help Needed" or something like that in Subject Line of your first post as well, to get more attention.
If the Lantus forum is slow, you could also try posting on the Main Health forum for help with your decision.

Sandy:

Here's information on handling a low pre-shot number. It will be helpful for the future.

If I had been on-line when you posted, I would have been very uncomfortable making any suggestion with regard to shooting. If you aren't testing during the PM cycle, I could not, in good conscience, suggest you shoot a lower number than you're used to seeing if you can't or won't monitor. I just could not put Felix at risk. I'm not familiar enough with your situation to know why you aren't getting in at least one test during the PM cycle. I would encourage you to re-think this pattern.

Wow, I feel like I just got my hand slapped. I am not a pro at this and am just learning the ropes. Since I didn't receive any advice, I skipped his shot. I thought this forum was to help and give advice. I am already stressed out to the max with my baby being a diabetic.

Thank you!

Sandy:

Sienne was not slapping your hand. We are, first and foremost, all about safety of the kitty here. I know Julie and I have both posted on Felix's condo on Health and urged you to get more mid cycle tests to keep him safe. I am the one who asked you to start posting here and let us know when you got a low PS and we'd walk you through it. But I believe I suggested you get a +11 so we had some time to guide you. So I have to reiterate that it is a good idea to get a +11 and if it's low, then post here with something like Serryn suggested "Felix +11 93 Need help" and click on the "question mark" button. We always cruise through the posts to look for those and answer them first.

We've also indicated that he "might" be a great candidate for coming off the insulin with some real consistency.

Many of our members work and we all have to set alarms to get up and take those mid-cycle tests so we know how low the kitty might be going. By having the data, our members are allowed to gradually learn how to shoot lower and control the numbers. We don't even know how Felix might respond to different foods if he got really low. With FD, knowledge of your kitty is power.

We are a support group and WANT to help....we really do. But we want to keep Felix safe and if we can't see what his BGs are doing, we won't make a suggestion that could put him at risk for a hypo.

Sandy-

Please don't feel as if you've been slapped on the wrist. This really IS the best place for you and Felix to be...there is boundless support and knowledge in this group.

We've all been exactly where you are today...overwhelmed and scared with this new diagnosis. It's stressful, and we understand how you feel. We want to teach you the ropes and ultimately help relieve that stress, so please do keep coming back, and please keep asking questions. You can also pop around in the condos (threads) for other kitties and learn a ton that way, too.

We're here for you...I hope we get to know you and Felix better...

Sandy:

My intent wasn't to slap your hand. If you look at the Webmaster's recommendations to advice-givers, the first and foremost rule is to do no harm. Your decision to skip made perfect sense if you are limited as to your ability to test during the PM cycle. (This is why I noted that I don't know your circumstances.)

We are more that willing to help in whatever way we can. No one here wants to suggest something that's risky, though.

Hi Sandy!

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents worth as well. I am brand new to this FD world (started shooting Tiki in Nov) and I am still learning the manners, etiquette and proper protocol of the boards. At least once a week I do something wrong and get corrected (posting procedures mostly) but no one means any harm when pointing out the "proper" way of doing things. It's just to make sure the information they need from you is easily accessible. Everyone here has been supportive and more than kind on all fronts. I wouldn't have made it this far (a whole TWO months   ) without their help. When I first started I was beyond overwhelmed and everyone kept saying how it would get easier and sooner than later it wouldn't even be a big deal anymore. Well they were right. I am very comfortable with the advice I've been given here on the boards and Tiki has been making slow but steady progress under their tutelage.

So WELCOME!!! Pull up a chair and meet all your new friends!
