He’s at 102, guys!!! Last three numbers were: 52, 78 and 102 :D
He barely woke up this last time I tested him, he’s so tired. Poor thing. What a day!
We’re going to bed now, I’m skipping his pm insulin. We need sleep.

Thank you all SO MUCH for all your help! I really appreciate it. This forum is incredible!
I’ll report back tomorrow as soon as I can to let you guys know how he’s doing :)
Good night!

I'd keep testing and set the alarm, we all have been there and some of us still there doing it. As for the ears, just give him a small no carb treat after each test and perhaps a bit of polysporin with pain relief. Hold the cotton tight for 20-30 sec. after each prick to stop the blood flow.

If you're supposed to give him 5 units, then 3 sounds good, but you will have to keep setting your alarm and monitoring him again. Or maybe 2.5 u as he's still low with 78.........I'm signing off as I was up all night last night with Davidson and still have to get up during the night to see his numbers.............otherwise skip if you have to sleep.

Thanks Shawna! I’ll set the alarm, for sure. Still not trusting the numbers. I don’t think I’ll ever trust the numbers to stay good again.
Oh yeah, good idea about the polysporin! I totally forgot about that! I use 70% alcohol after each prick with some cotton, I hold it down a bit to stop the blood.
Good luck with Davidson! Hope he keeps up the safe numbers! Sleep well :)

My suggestion was to skip tonight, drain the depot which is way too full. Maybe spend the time entering your last two weeks of spreadsheet data. Please don't give 6 units in the morning, it's too high a dose. I can't suggest anything more regarding dose without spreadsheet data.

If you take a few minutes a day to update the SS it's a lot faster and easier to that then to enter all the data at once. Especially of you're waiting around between tests, that's a good time to enter the data. Not sure why you stopped, but as Wendy said it's much needed data and gives a great picture of how Orlando is doing. It's a PITA, but well worth it!

Hey guys!

Sorry for taking so long to report back. Orlando wasn't letting me do much these past few days, he just didn't want to be alone at all. I haven't left the house in 3 days and I kinda had a breakdown (again) yesterday.
I couldn't believe I hadn't updated Orlando's SS since march! I just never remember it, I never use this kind of software on my normal life (I'm a photographer and artist, numbers are far from my routine on the computer, aside from bills). But everything is always written down and also photographed (I photograph the meter every time and then I write it all down in Orlando's journal with information about the day when necessary).

He's doing much better! On Friday, the day after his hypo crisis, he was feeling pretty awful and nauseous. Threw up three times, but his BG was above 500 (my meter doesn't read above that, just shows "Hi") until later that day, so I guess it was normal. He must have been on really really high numbers... he drank A LOT of water that day.
From yesterday on, he's getting back to his normal self. Even wanted to play last night.
Now I know what to do (and what not to do) when he goes into hypo. That's what was "good" about last Thursday, which was the first time I experienced it. First times are always crazy scary, we usually forget that once all these crappy things we have to do become routine.
Two very important things I learned about Orlando in hypo mode: honey works better than Karo for him, and also, if he wants to sleep a little, I should let him and not poke him every 15 minutes. He's the kind of cat that when stressed, his numbers drop even lower. I've learned that after many vet trips/exams trips and my mom's cat staying with us for a few days when she travels. We even joke about this at home, like "oh, his numbers are pretty high. We should bring mom's cat over here or take him out of the house". It's obviously really important to know how the numbers are, especially in hypo, but I believe I have to be able to see when my cat is begging me to leave him alone for a little while and just give him love and comfort.

I wanna thank you all who came to this post to help me, it was incredibly comforting knowing I had a place to come where experienced people could tell me what they do when their cats are in hypo mode. I believe each cat is a very different individual, but most of the things that work for one cat in hypo will also work for another. Also, helping the human stay calm and collected is priceless <3

Have a great rest of the weekend, everyone :bighug:
