Hey guys!
Sorry for taking so long to report back. Orlando wasn't letting me do much these past few days, he just didn't want to be alone at all. I haven't left the house in 3 days and I kinda had a breakdown (again) yesterday.
I couldn't believe I hadn't updated Orlando's SS since march! I just never remember it, I never use this kind of software on my normal life (I'm a photographer and artist, numbers are far from my routine on the computer, aside from bills). But everything is always written down and also photographed (I photograph the meter every time and then I write it all down in Orlando's journal with information about the day when necessary).
He's doing much better! On Friday, the day after his hypo crisis, he was feeling pretty awful and nauseous. Threw up three times, but his BG was above 500 (my meter doesn't read above that, just shows "Hi") until later that day, so I guess it was normal. He must have been on really really high numbers... he drank A LOT of water that day.
From yesterday on, he's getting back to his normal self. Even wanted to play last night.
Now I know what to do (and what not to do) when he goes into hypo. That's what was "good" about last Thursday, which was the first time I experienced it. First times are always crazy scary, we usually forget that once all these crappy things we have to do become routine.
Two very important things I learned about Orlando in hypo mode: honey works better than Karo for him, and also, if he wants to sleep a little, I should let him and not poke him every 15 minutes. He's the kind of cat that when stressed, his numbers drop even lower. I've learned that after many vet trips/exams trips and my mom's cat staying with us for a few days when she travels. We even joke about this at home, like "oh, his numbers are pretty high. We should bring mom's cat over here or take him out of the house". It's obviously really important to know how the numbers are, especially in hypo, but I believe I have to be able to see when my cat is begging me to leave him alone for a little while and just give him love and comfort.
I wanna thank you all who came to this post to help me, it was incredibly comforting knowing I had a place to come where experienced people could tell me what they do when their cats are in hypo mode. I believe each cat is a very different individual, but most of the things that work for one cat in hypo will also work for another. Also, helping the human stay calm and collected is priceless <3
Have a great rest of the weekend, everyone
