AMPS started ok 241, but Mav's bouncing again  , I was so tired last night, I decided not to test after his +4 191. We'll see if he wants to do another spectacular clear bounce manouever tonight :)

I have a question regarding imaging of pancreas again... no rush, but if anyone understands imaging, ie. @tiffmaxee ?

I spoke with the vet tech a few days ago, they mentioned imaging again. I asked why, since he's not shown any signs of pancreatitis. They suggested it would help see if there is a mass, which might explain his higher preshot numbers. Seriously, that's what was said , I tried to explain about bouncing from low numbers, dawn effect on am preshots, and ECID, not all will fit into their idea of an ideal curve.

Honestly, even if there were a mass, what difference does it make? And his nadir numbers have been going in the right direction anyway, he's needed 2 reducies in 10 days. Truly, I feel like I'm on my own...well except for having this forum :p, thanks for that.

You'll get better advice here than from most vets. ;) Imaging the pancreas might show inflammation or masses. I don't know much about this though ...

Does he have any other adverse symptoms? Been diagnosed with pancreatitis? Poor appetite, obvious pain? I have never heard of a vet suggesting an ultrasound or other pancreas imaging just because a cat is diabetic. Unless you have unlimited funds to spend, I'd want a better reason than his preshot numbers. Clearly, they don't understand depot insulins and bouncing.

BTW, I missed your condo a couple of days ago when you shot your lowest PS yet, and apparently no one else thought to give you these, so here you go:

From what I've read on the pancreatitis board it's been hit and miss with ultrasounds. When Max first got sick I had started going to a more proactive vet. She had a mobile vet do an ultrasound that showed everything wrong with him except pancreatitis so she didn't do the SpecfPL test. I went back too my conservative IM and he ran the fPL which was really high! Had I listened to the first vet the recommendation was surgical biopsy. The second ultrasound done by his favorite boarded radiologist showed no need for biopsies. I guess he was right because Max was 12 at the time and I lost him to heart disease last October at the age of 19. So I wouldn't rush to an ultrasound on a cat acting fine. The only way to know for sure in my opinion would be a surgical biopsy if an ultrasound showed masses.

Tricia he isn't showing any symptoms.

My civie Theo went from clean pancreas on U/S to mass bigger than the pancreas in a little over three months. He started gaining a little bit of weight - turned out it was fluid in the abdomen, started drinking more than usual, then stopped eating all in a short period of time. That was it for signs. Oh, I did test his BG cause he was on pred, normal. We've had plenty of bouncy kitties here, especially those still fairly new to FD, and a long haired black and white girl not so new, that had clean images of the pancreas.

Mav's preshots aren't that bad, especially considering you are using the AT. It's just a combo of bounce and not great duration at times. He's gone from 2.0 units to 1.25 in two weeks, so keep on keeping on.

Congratulations on your BOS! Whoop whoop! :D:p

It's really disconcerting to try to talk about curves, etc. as you mentioned and be met by resistance or worse. I'm primed to trust those who have an MD or DVM, but I have to admit, I find those on the forum much more knowledgeable about FD than my vet.

Also, I trust my gut: I know when Girlie is off. I insisted that the current vet do tests that she thought weren't really necessary, and was so glad I did: a Phenobarbitone test (her levels were toxic); and an x-ray (not just constipated, but massively impacted, if that's the right term). My beloved vet is on maternity leave, but she always said, "Darrah - you know your cat and you observe her closely and can pick up on subtle changes over time that I can't observe in a routine visit. So you tell me what's going on and we'll figure it out together." I miss my beloved vet...sigh...

Christie, I hear your frustration and I really hope you get the answers you need and that Maverick stops bouncing... :bighug:

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all the feedback! I really am not fussed about the bouncing, I know that will inevitably be less of a problem over time, and really he's been clearing them quickly lately ;). Mav's preshot values are a lot better than they used to be :D. I have a printout of the AAHA diabetes management guidelines, I think I'll send it over to the vet with my next snapshot of BG values, then just keep on with MY program lol, if I had blindly listened to the vet two weeks ago, and had not gained from the experience or information available on this forum, Mav would be on 3u BiD and who knows how that would have gone, but my gut tells me not well.

PMPS 396, Mav likes his pm cycles better, let's see if he wants to come on down :D
