No, I am not. The pooh is slightly runny around the edges sometimes but the s. boulardii seems to be doing its job.
Question on Lantus: Prescription started May 28. How will I know when it is ineffective?
I am starting to fret about the refill...which vet to ask (old one who prescribed or new one).
Thanks

Would you be able to give me the dates when she was eating higher carb kibble mixed with her usual LC one?

I presume you are talking about the validity of the prescription and not whether the Lantus is still good?

The bottle says discard after October 23, 2021 so that is validity.
I was asking about effectiveness on BG numbers after that date.
According to the SS, high kibble lines are #80-84, so Aug 29 through Sept 2 only.
Thanks

I saw your question about the October 21 expiration on your insulin. It doesn’t immediately go from good to not good in a day but it MAY not be an issue. Here’s why. I would like to suggest a food trial. That means you don’t give insulin for a couple days and give a +9 snack. We see if she stays green and the amps/pmps are green. If successful the food trial becomes an otj trial. If not and you start to see more blue you go back to a drop. What do you think?

I would like to give the food trial a go. I had hoped to see more GREEN AM & PM PS's before trying that, but perhaps Sister will be a cat that never sees BG's that low consistently.
Question: In order to consider the OTJ trial successful, must her greens be in the 70's? Or can it be successful with 98's?

The greens d not need to be in the 70’s. You want to see almost all green and that the bg comes down 3-4 hours after eating. So if you see a blue amps or pmps try to get a test 3-4 hours later. Good luck.
Also, I think you have a human meter too but wanted to use up your AT strips. If that is correct now would be a good time to use it. Don’t run out and buy one though. It’s not a requirement in any way to go otj that you do that.

Please confirm if you are using the Relion or AT. I thought I was told an AT BUT the ss says Relion. Thanks.

My bad. I mixed you up with another cat. More coffee more sleep needed.

OK Thanks!
Yes, the AT issue/extra strips is somebody else... :0)
I use ReliOn only.

When you don’t shoot it’s PMBG. Good luck with the food trial. Don’t forget the +9 snack.
I am already mildly confused.
I let Sister eat when my other cats ate dinner (one hour earlier than she normally tests/eats/gets shot).
My next thought was, "Was I supposed to test right before feeding anyway??"
When I thought of it, I tested but it was 60 minutes AFTER she ate.
Thanks for the clarification.

Yes. Test at what would be amps and pmps. So the pmbg was after eating and food influenced yet still green. Wonderful. If your AMBG or PMBG is not green, test in 3-4 hours to see if it comes down. Can I help with anything else?

No, the PMBG was 108, so blue.
I dusted off my pre-retirement radio alarm clock and set it for 4:00 a.m.
(Surprised I remembered how to do it.)

Just going to recap it all so it's easier :-) @tiffmaxee please correct me if I get anything wrong.
  • Test at your usual shot time (those would be AMBG/PMBG). Make sure to withhold food 2 hours before like you did when you were giving insulin.
  • If the AMBG/PMBG are green, you don't need any more tests, but no harm in getting a mid-cycle test.
  • If the AMBG/PMBG reading is blue, test again after 3 hours to see if she drops to green. Do not feed between AMBG/PMBG and the +3 test.
  • Feed a small snack at +9 in both cycles.

Do NOT feed between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 PM??? Sister is going to be hounding me for food.
She is used to 4-5 small served meals since she can no longer graze with the others.

If the Ambg or pmbg is blue, feed, and get another test in 3-4 hours. The bg will come down to green if the pancreas is working.

Ah OK. I meant that if you get a blue number at AMBG or PMBG, feed and test after 3 hours to see if the number drops to green. Don't feed between the AMBG (or PMBG) and +3 in this case.
I apologize for being so easily confused.
This morning she got a green at AMBG. BUT if she had gotten a BLUE, I would FEED breakfast per usual, wait 3 hours while NOT feeding ANY MORE food during that period, then test again +3. Got it.

Gave Sister 6-8 tiny low/no carb kibbles at 12:00 noon (crying for food)
BG check at 1:00 pm showed it went down.
Did I ruin the trial?
She is having difficulty not eating a crumb for 9 hours (until first allowable snack at +9).
Thx.

You don’t have to withdraw food until +9. You only need to pick up food from after the +9 snack until pmps. The rest of the time she’s free to eat. Just no food from +9 until amps and pmps. So no food only for three hours after the +9 snack.

Thanks for another clarification. I thought the two +9 snacks were the ONLY other food she could have.
Feel better now.

Hi Ann, the only time you withhold food is:
(a) Between +9 and PS - so give a snack at +9 and then nothing till PS
(b) IF you get a BLUE PS, you feed at PS and then don't feed till +3. Test at +3 to see if she dips into green again.

Does this clarify? :-)
