Day 2 in Lantus Land.....

After a day of medium to high yellows and low pinks, I expect a repeat today as the dose is the same (maybe less pinks?). Will hopefully learn when Poopy's depot is stocked but unsure how to tell with such awful numbers. We'll get there. :lol: And I know there's plenty of helpful eyes out there to help Poopy and me. Thanks!

As some of you know, I've been reading threads and not posting (yes, a self-professed lurker!). I've ventured a bit with posting a little, but must admit...Man, there's a lot of threads! This would be a full-time profession, reading them all! And with being as unsure of myself and of Lantus Land, often I have no idea what to share on other's threads. Know that I read and absorb. (Where's my nerdy emicon?) If there are specific threads you believe would be most educational for Poopy and me, don't hesitate to steer us towards them. :lol:

Hi Teresa

Anne/Liz/Zener often has great updates on some of the talking points of LL and its kitties and beans. I've also taken to doing LL Highlights of the must-read condos, so pop round to Karre's Caturday Condo too when you get a chance and you'll see some good places to start. I add the links to the Highlights condos, for ease of reference :mrgreen: Enjoy!

Oh yes, the Caturday Condos is on my "must read" list! I read one and am sold! :lol:

I know what you mean about so many condos to read and not being sure what to post. For the first month or so I was just lurking and taking it all in. I did post updates on Furball, but I didn't start posting in other condos until recently. I still have times where I'm not sure what to say, but I figure I can at least return some of the support I have been given by just posting a simple reply and offering hopes for better results or you're doing a good job. I've even been able to offer help at times now. Everyone around here is so friendly and helpful.

I've learned with Lantus you have to be patient. It takes time to collect the data you need to see how Poopy will react. Of course you already have some experience with the ProZinc, but I think that works differently than Lantus. Keep up the good work. Poopy is lucky to have a bean like you.

I enjoyed hearing how you came to name your kitty "Poopy."
That was one name I really did wonder about! :shock: :lol: :lol:

+5 222. So much better than all the pinks yesterday...but looking forward to future improvements. :-D

Made an executive decision and did not go in to work today. I know Poopy appreciates it! dancing_cat While he had a nice layout, it still wasn't home so out of his comfort zone.

I'm pretty sure the +5 is without food as neither kitty has touched the food (until now) from +3.5 (that's when the auto feeder turns to new food). Will be interesting to see the +7 and how Poopy's current munching effects his BGs. (Doi! Forgot to hit submit!)

+7 241...not bad, comparatively. Still lots of room for improvement. :smile:

Is this how Lantus normally works? Once they start getting multiple shots they start drifting down in numbers?

"Normally" is a pretty loaded word, Teresa. What this looks like is that Poopy is liking the Lantus so far :smile:
But yeah, this is the way it's supposed to work. ;-)

Right now, you're still working on establishing the "depot". Yesterday it was mentioned that Poopy might benefit from "fast tracking" if his numbers stayed pink and high yellow. But it looks (to my untrained eyes) that you might be seeing a downward trend with improving numbers. If that continues, then I'm guessing you hold off on increasing and reevaluate after a couple more cycles? Let's see what the Poopster thinks...

It usually takes 5 - 7 days for the insulin depot to form. If you recall, we mentioned that the initial dose of Lantus is reduced slightly when you switch from another insulin to Lantus. Some cats have a marked response to the switch. I don't know if this is the case for Poopy but the blue sure is good to see!

When I saw "marked response" I translated that to mean immediate (very unlike Poopy's pinks). I am so happy Poopy is slowly going down. I sure hope it trends that way and not his, "Here's a blue, now come all the yellows for a while" antics. Of course, that was with a different insulin, too.

Had to leave the house so haven't tested him since. Getting ready to do his PMPS.

Nice blue today! Yay! Just wanted to stop by and welcome you to LL! It definitely takes time to look at all the condos each day. The LL family seems to be growing daily! Glad you are here and looking forward to getting to know you and Poopy!
 
Teresa, Great to see Poopy with no pink and a taste of blue today :-D , hope he will be back for more. It seems pretty typical for folks here to read more threads than they post to. You may have noticed there are more views than replies on most threads. Those of us who are fairly new do well visiting other newbies who have the same questions, and the gurus advise and explain things in easily digestible portions. It takes me a long time to get around to all the condos so now I try to read some different condos each day and look at their spreadsheets to learn more. (where is nerd smiley) Over time I have gotten more familiar with many of the cats and beans and their situations. Many times I still dont know what to post, if anything, but most people seem to appreciate greetings and well wishes, and I figure if we post something wrong someone will let us know. We really do learn something new here every day from fd stuff to thundershirts to using butter to remove pine tar :mrgreen: . Read all you can, post when you are comfortable with it, and thank those who help you.
