Good afternoon all! Well, not much to report - bob's numbers are crazy because he does not EVER eat the same two days in a row. At +6 on the evening of the 7th, his number was 278. When I get up, it's 444. Usually, that's because he went into the blues, but I can't imagine that happening with a 278 at +6, unless it was food related. I guess I'm done trying to figure it out. It is what it is.

So, I just wanted to check on Bob's strange behavior. We already know he is a weird cat, but I thought I would run this past you guys with male kitties. Bob used to do this when I first got him and then it kind of faded away so I was wondering if it might be related to something going on with him. He starts to make a bed on a blanket and then gets all excited and before I know it, he has a kitty boner! wth! When I first found him and brought him in the house, he would do this and then chase me around trying to bite my legs. It kind of went to every now and then and when he was starting to get sick, he never did it. Now he's back to doing it alot. He's fixed, so he shouldn't have any "urges" and he doesn't really try anything with the other cats, so not quite sure why he would be doing it. Honestly, I've had many male cats and Bob is the first kitty penis I've ever seen! Quite often! He will just lie back against the wall and it will all hang out. He'll look at me like "what??". Honestly, he's acting like most men I know, but I still feel like there must be some reason for it. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I hope everyone has a great day. I'm very happy my Monday is almost over....

Many thoughts and prayers for Jill, Barb and Jamie and Jupiter. Hope all kitties and beans are doing well today.

HA! That will make the rest of my day, Dara!

Actually, I've had several cats that did that. The first was Boo - he only started it as a senior, when Tigger would plop down & sleep next to him. At first Boo hated that, then tolerated it, then well, one thing led to the next, & then Tigger was getting neck bites & mounts. :o Poor Tigger - he's so innocent, he thought he was just getting hugs. :? Boo was neutered as a kitten, so the only things that come up for me are:

1) FUS - is Bob peeing ok, & has no UTIs?
2) Hyperthyroid or something else that might make him excited? Has he been tested for HT? (HT cats also often vocalize, but not always)
3) s it after he's been grooming? My other cat Simon (also an FUS / FLUTD cat) will have it pop out after grooming. He used to do it before he was FUS & possibly it was related to that.
4) Alpha male behavior - Boo was our Alpha cat - but a chillaxed one. Simon is definitely NOT our Alpha.
5) If it feels good, DO IT!

That's all I come up with - I'd be interested in seeing what others say, just FYI! Good luck, Dara!

Oh I just have to laugh at this.....   the way it sounds....
Honestly, he's acting like most men I know, but I still feel like there must be some reason for it

  I am glad I don't know any men who are laying around this way.....

but I know that's now how you meant it.....

I haven't had any male cats.... so I'm clueless.

He'll look at me like "what??". Honestly, he's acting like most men I know...

     First off, I needed that laugh today - so thanks :-D

Dane's cat Lumpkins does this kind of thing too! I have no idea why either! Its funny that you bring it up because I always thought Lumpkins was the only 'fixed' cat who did this. I am sorry I have no advice but I have gotta stop back later to see what others say!

Hope you have a great day!

Dara, I know this post is totally serious to you, so I apologize, for laughing too. (Heehee)
I have no advice, though.

Thank you for thinking of Checks and me

Thanks for the responses guys! It is kind of funny! And honestly, I just meant how men aren't shy about roaming around and letting it all hang out. Haha!

As far as I can tell, Bob is ok with #1. #2 is interesting because Bob is very vocal at really weird times, but I did call the vet and they did do all the thyroid tests on him and he was ok. It could very well be alpha male behavior, I have just never had a cat who did it. I guess it means he's feeling better! I hope so! I don't mind it, of course, I was just curious!

Butthead did this whenever he was making intense kitty biscuits on a blanket, but under normal circumstances, it wasn't hanging out, which is good since he did like to lie back on his bum with his legs apart. Donovan was also known to mount certain civvie sisters and bite their necks. He knew better than to attempt it on others and was for the most part very subservient and docile. Both Butthead and Donny were neutered at a young age, probably 6-8 months. Haven't seen either behavior from Piglet, who was also neutered at 6 months.

Oh Dara, this made me laugh!

My friend's cat does something similar. I think she's caught him humping his stuffed toys too.

Dara,
I join the laugh too....I've never had one of my male cats do it. About all of them try the climb on/neck biting thing but that's just Alpha action on each of their parts.

My male dogs do it often...but they don't stop at just lettin' it hang out... ;-)

Like Jamie, I'll be back later too.... :-D :-D

Awww...poor Bob! He's a laughing stock!! Well, he really doesn't try to hump anyone. However, he will spend a good deal of time licking his pee pee when he's done. ohmygod_smile I wonder if he's confused...I'm a little embarrassed for him when he does it. Now, Hector will spend alot of time kneading a blanket and puts his nose in it like he is nursing. It's so cute. But nothing sexual. I guess Bob's just a perv!!!

HAHA!!! That's just not right!! That's only for dogs to do. Cats have way too much class!

Just because they have been neutered, doesn't mean that all cats lose the urge to want to mate.

My friend's cat Rio use to mount my little guy Jake all the time, they were best friends and would sleep together and well Rio would take it just one step further and poor Jake let him.

Rio also almost nightly, likes to wrap himself around his beans arm and do his biz! and yes she let's him. He's neutered but he really is a manly kitty and didn't want anyone to forget I guess.

ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile

I wasnt laughing at Bob... I was laughing at
Honestly, he's acting like most men I know

Jupiter doesnt do this.... Lumpkins does it though (not all the time... just sometimes) and he used to try to uhhhh "hook up" with Mittens (Mittens was Dane's other cat and crossed the bridge last summer) and Mittens hated it... We would have to save her!  Lumpkins is a perv too I guess!!!!! When he gets in this 'mood' Lumpkins also acts really playful and meows a lot. I just thought it was normal for him...

Sorry, Dara...this gave me a chuckle too. I'm picturing you all SHOCKED!!! LOL

Every male cat I've ever had has done this. Like Hilary said, just becuase a male is neutered, doesn't mean they lose the urge. Females don't either. Bob basically had a vasectomy, and I think we ALL know that certainly doesn't slow down human males!

Maybe Bob is just feeling a bit better right now? Perhaps it's been extra windy there--and it's just hitting him the right way...lol.

Anyway, from what I've ever seen, our male kitties are feeling good--and are in great spirits--when they "let it all hang out". In fact, Klepto prefers an audience when he bathes! Yes, he's a wierdo too...lol. Another fixed male cat I had, Cooter, would shag the heck out of my stuffed animals. YES, I have pictures to prove it!!!

HUGS!

:YMHUG:

Oh Dara,
You just always crack me up   Thanks, I needed that
I don't remember ever having a cat do this, but I have had mostly girls, and I got Hoot fixed so early he doesn't know what he is

I needed a good laugh today. I haven't had any of my males cats do that. I'm glad Bob seems to be feeling good.

   that made me laugh so hard!!! Typical devoted pet owner-sacrificing for ur furbaby!! Can't really say I would do the same. I'd probably buy him a stuffed kitty!

Well my friend kept this nightly activity a secret from me, until I was over one night and watched him climb up on the couch arm, straddle her arm and start doing his biz, and my friend looked at me with an expression that was quite embarrassed that I learned her secret. Of course my response wasn't helpful - I said what the hell is that?!

and that's when the confession happened........

now we just don't talk about it and she has never thought about or offered him an alternate outlet for his lovins....guess she likes it too.....

....ummm, boy(s) is the room??? :o

I was actually going to post something along these lines recently, but then I thought "no, carl, you don't quite know these ladies well enough to ask this sort of thing...."

But yeah, my boy Bob is a "blanket humper". Not just any blanket, it has to be a plush fuzzy kind of blanket. Like the one I have on my bed unfortunately. For years, (for other reasons), Bob, Mullet, or any other kitties have been banned from the bedrooms. Mostly because they wouldn't let us sleep soundly. All night it'd be on the bed off the bed, territory wars, or (especially Mullet) the need to groom oneself nonstop all night long. So probably 10 years ago, the bedroom doors started staying shut at night.

When Mullet crossed a few weeks ago, Bob became an "only" for the first time in his life. So I figured, what the heck, I don't want him walking around crying all night, I'll open the door and let him come in the room if he chooses to. That first night, and every night since then, Bob has slept on the foot of the bed, usually on one of my feet. And I hear him hop off the bed and come back once in a while, but it doesn't keep me awake.

But, I had forgotten Bob's habit of "humping". He did it a lot when he was younger too. Any time he got on a blanket, robe, whatever, that was plush, he'd start kneading dough with this spaced out look on his face, and eventually he would "hump it". It was amusing, to a point, and usually resulted in a "Hey, your junk doesn't work, dude. There's part that aren't even there any more. Quit humping the blanket". Once you broke the "trance", he'd stop.

He used to also "hump" his sister, Lillian once in a while. You'd hear this squeal from Lilly (usually due to the neck bite), know what Bob was up to, and it required the obligatory "Bob, you perv, she's your sister, quit humping you sister!!!" And then Lilly would come running with this "what the hell was THAT all about???" look on her face.

He's been neutered since he was six months old or so, never around a female cat in heat, so it isn't related to prior experience. And I don't care really if he wants to hump the blanket. Unless my foot or other body part is under the "target". In that case, it's "Hey, perv, knock it off!!!"

Thanks for bringing it up though, Dara. ;-)

Yeah-it is like a trance-isn't that funny?? And he also prefers the more plush blankets. Thanks for sharing Carl! That was pretty funny. Glad to know its more common than I thought. I just never saw a cat do it before. You are a good dad for putting up with it. :thumbup

I do nominate Hillary for best story! The arm-humper gets my vote.

Have to agree with that :-D
If Bob starts humping my arm, at least one of us is going to a therapist
Bob went for an annual check up last Friday. He's gained over 3 pounds (17.75). His new nickname is "humpity dumpity"

Okay, so I wasn't going to go here ....... but, here goes. Boris has had PU surgery - he was neutered at 6 months and TOTALLY lost the rest of it around age 9 or so. Let me tell you - it NEVER stopped him from biting Tashie's neck and trying to do "you know what"
Basically, PU surgery REALLY makes them into a "girl" but not my boy! Boy's will be boys! Have you tried Feliaway or something? Although, God knows, that might make him "happier" ...... maybe it's happiness to have his "O" food back?

Good luck with this!

B

Yeah, I couldn't resist, either  :o  ! I have nothing else to add...fortunately my boys keep it "in their pants"...but I had to read it anyway.

Have a great night, Dara!

@Carl - please stop! Ur makings laugh so hard I'll never get to sleep!

@Bern - Awwww....Boris is a perv too?? Shocking! :shock:

@Amy - yeah, Hector keeps it in his pants too!! He was a little younger than Bob when he got fixed so maybe that had something to do with it!!

Thanks everyone for all the laughs and stories. Glad to know We're not alone!!! ;-)

pmsl... with the whole thread

btw Dara, don't feel embarrassed for Bob, this "what??" look is indeed a typical male reaction

The sexuality of cats obviously is a bit unpredictable, and that applies to their sexual identity too.
I have three girls, they are sisters and I have them since the moment they were born. I got them neutered a week after they turned 6 months old, and they never went into heat.
Alitra is the dominant pet. Miou would love to be the dominant but she didn't have the chance because she was blinded at age 1, a long time before their mom(who naturally was the dominant pet then) crossed. That leaves Cleopatra who is the more docile of them all, and quite a wimpy cat, who always sleeps next to Alitra and seeks for her protection.
You can imagine my shock when I found Cleopatra mounting Alitra, and sort of but not really biting her neck... :o :o

I just hope she wont start humping my hand too

Hi Elsa - I guess they are more like people than we thought! I have seen female dogs do that sort of thing to show dominance, just never a kitty of mine! Too funny....

I was laughing this morning watching my girls, cause Nikki totally has an inappropriate smelling issue. Dee's been with me for over 6 months now and they've been together for about 3, and EVERY DAY Nikki goes over to her multiple times and sticks her nose on poor Dee's chest, her tail, and right up her behind. Then she smacks Dee!  I mean, she's so socially inept!

My little herd - some are litter mates, some are "add ons" - have been sniffing each other's butts for over 10 years now. They all participate...3 males, 2 females. At this point, I don't think it's a phase that's going to pass - especially since three of them were born together and they STILL do it to each other. Crazy cats  !

Oh no!

It's really hilarious because of the smack at the end. Poor Dee, she gets her butt sniffed AND gets smacked for her trouble!

I'm really glad I have girls now though. ;-)

Mullet made a habit out of sniffing Bob's butt daily. Bob didn't return the favor. I always figured that even after fourteen years together, Mullet was convinced that at some point, he'd figure out where Bob's tail was hiding. ;-)

Errrmmm I thought butt smelling is something very common with cats, gross but as common as asking "how was your day hun" all my cats do it to each other...
