Hello LL!!

Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=124952

I really wanted to commit to a limited ingredient diet for Billie to see if her problem is a food allergy, but she is so picky that I already caved. I tried giving her Evo first this morning, and she licked it and walked away. I tried Hound & Gatos - same thing. Even with fortiflora. I gave it 45 minutes to see if she would go back for either of those, then broke out the FF Chicken (has fish) because I don't want her not eating, especially with a nice blue PS and the Convenia still active in her system. She didn't even eat much of that though, so maybe it's an appy issue today. I guess I just have to stick to the food trial if I'm going to do it. She does like the H & G and Evo, but she doesn't love it/get excited over it like she does with Merrick and FF. I can always give her some boiled chicken if I need her to eat something, but that's only a temporary fix.

She did a lot of coughing overnight last night, and she is still itching a lot. I called her vet to say that we definitely need the referral to the specialist, but he's out today so I'll have to wait until tomorrow. I can't get into the specialty office without the referral. But, I checked out their website, and one of the doctors specializes in dermatology and allergic disorders. So, she's the one I want to start with.

Meanwhile, Billie has been super playful, so she must be feeling okay. And, no more diarrhea so far. I hope her appy picks up as we get farther into the cycle.

Vines to all the cats and beans in need!!

Playing and no diarrhea. Good.
Now, Billie, let's work on that appy.

Hope you get to see the specialist soon. This is just so confounding. So glad Billie's playing and enjoying herself, even if it means playing food games with her bean!

Yay for playing and seeming to feel good.

When you say "no diarrhea so far", do you mean she's had a normal poo, or just nothing?

Changing fuds is hard - cats like routine and hate change. If you're serious about it, you'll probably have to toughen up at first - let her see you aren't going to give her another option. Obviously, if she absolutely refused to have anything to do with a food, you'll have to offer something she'll eat, but try to hold off as long as you can so she doesn't think she can win. I know how hard it is, but you can do it!!!

Sending appy vines for Billie and stiff spine vines for the bean!

Marilyn, thanks for stopping by! I hope Polly is doing well today. Yes, it is very confounding! At least her numbers are looking pretty darn good.

I think we can get in with the specialist soon. I called the office to see what her availability is like even though I can't schedule an appointment until our vet calls. She has openings next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, so hopefully our vet can call tomorrow, and we'll schedule something for early next week. He wanted to give the Panacur and Convenia a chance before sending us to the specialist, and I think it's safe to say that neither helped much. The Convenia did clear up some of the yucky looking skin, but it can't stop new hives from popping up. I also have Allerplex on the way from Amazon. Hopefully, that will make a difference.

Tricia, thank you for the "tough love" advice! I think you're right on with that. I am going to stick to the lamb and see how it goes. I know she will eat it, because she ate it last night and ate a couple bites today. When she really hates something and there is no chance of her eating it, she looks at it, looks at me, and paws at the ground near the food dish like she is trying to cover it up.

She had a soft but pretty normal poo last night and no poo so far today.

ETA: She just ate a few bites of lamb, which is good since Mr. Greenie is here

ETA: I wasn't satisfied with the amount she ate considering her numbers, and I found a new trick!! I have some no sodium added chicken stock without anything extra in it (no onions, etc.) so I mixed some of that with the lamb. She wasn't convinced, so I sprinkled some oregano on top, and that did the trick! Billie likes oregano! Phew. She ate a reasonable amount. I guess she just needed some new bribery tactics.

Food allergies are SO hard to figure out. I'm glad it sounds like you'll be able to see the specialist ASAP. Poor Billie...but I'm so glad she's playing and having a great time! INteresting that she likes oregano....I never thought to try that!

Who would have guessed a cat would love oregano??? Glad to hear Billie is feeling better but I hear you on caving when the new food is rejected! Good news on the diarrhea stopping, sure hope you can get into see the specialist sooner rather than later! Sending healing and feel better vines for you and Billie! :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Amy and Ruth, thanks for visiting us!!

Billie still seems like she feels good tonight, but her appy isn't great. She's not discriminating after all. I put out some Merrick in desperation, and she only took a couple bites before walking away. She wasn't too excited about boiled chicken either. So, at least I know it's not just a problem with the food, and I can stick to the Hound & Gatos. Hopefully, she eats more tomorrow.

I am anxious to get an appointment with the specialist set up. Every time she coughs, I feel so nervous. Her vet should be calling me tomorrow, and we can get that rolling. I'm going to ask about options for kitty cough medicine to treat the symptoms and hopefully make her a little more comfortable for now. When she's not coughing, she's totally fine, but the fits are scary. I am counting 8-15 coughs per fit. She also has stray coughs here and there, but it's the coughing fits that worry me. At least she's not open mouth breathing, which is what the vet said to look out for. Hopefully, we get everything sorted out within the next week or so.

I hope everyone is having a nice night!!
