Happy Caturday all!
Small success in last night's first autofeeder with her +4 pm feeding. I loaded the feeder knowing I would be awake for the 1rst compartment
to open. Ididn't see her reaction to it when it did ( other room) but she wasn't approaching it so I took out the little tray and let her smell
it and put it back on the feeder. She played for a few minutes and then she sauntered over to it and started eating out of it but didn't
finish and I caught her 2 more times eating that serving. I did have to push it back out of the corner for her , she's used to a flat little
plate.
Then when the second one opened she didn't go see. And I finally when and picked it up to show her but she didn't want that. So
I put it back and tried again later but I think she's tired of the Tikicat plain chicken. The only one she likes is the chicken with egg.
Too bad since they are 0%.
I also stuck the laundry basket on her top seat of her mini tower so she couldn't sleep there and that worked. She got on the
sofa bed with me ( oh my aching back!) . She was disappointed that all the gaps were shoved closed with pillows.
And then at 4:30 am she started nudging me for food but I was too sleepy and I really do want her to have that gap of at least 5 hrs
with no food before shot.
But I also worried a little. I just can't tell from looking at her if she's dropping lower and everytime I think I should run test her, she is
running higher numbers like 90 or 100.
I didn't get up though. I decided I would wait until preshot.
She started licking my face at 5:30 am ( shot is at 6am) and I'm sure my skin is smoother for the dermabrasion treatment :lol:
The love bites are more painful then the licking but the licking isn't great either but I will take any affection ( attention) from her
and enjoy it because time is too short.
We then got back in the bed for another 3 1/2 hrs sleep and she woke me for more breakfast and I delivered.

I kept the syringes from the last few shots out so I can now measure them with the caliper and see if any of them are a little off and then
start measuring some unused ones too and get some marks on them. goody! homework! @-)

Sounds like it will take some time for Shadow to get used to the autofeeder. Of course it might help if she wants to eat the flavor of food you put in it. I hate it when Furball does that. I get her food ready and then she looks at me like what did you just give me. :lol: Good luck with the calipers.

Hi Rhiannon,

Shadow is doing great! What kind of autofeeder did you get, the 2- compartment kind? We have one of those and I bought small dishes that fit into the trays and are shallow enough so that the lids can be closed. Works great.

Have fun with your calipers and syringes!!!

it's the 2 tray.
I can't see needing 5 and I assume it keeps rotating anyway.

If we every go anywhere where we need more than 2 more feedings, I'll have to hire someone to give food.

If we go to Tx at Christmas, I know I'll have someone coming twice a day , so that should cover 3 bowls /caretaker visit.
But we have to be in remission before I'll leave for a week.
Shadow would not handle a stranger hunting her down, testing her and giving her shots and I would never ever board her.

And from what I'm gathering, even if she were on the tiniest dose by then, I shouldn't let her go a week without shots. :sad:

I hear your sofa pain, Rhiannon. We got a new one last year cause the one previous was almost 15 years old! Great for amortization but really, really bad for the back. :shock:

Hi Rhiannon, what a great cycle today for Shadow. I hope she eventually starts using the auto feeder. I have one here for Maggie, but I'm usually not gone more than a few hours at a time, so I rarely use it. Thanks for stopping by earlier. Hope you're enjoying the weekend.

well phooey, phooey and pooie!

We may have another stinkin' furshot tonite. :twisted: Shadow was doing her usual nom nom growl as I posed to shoot her and I had the needle
in her skin and she moves away from me. I had to stick it back in again not knowing if there was anything left in it or not. If I stopped to
look with the magnifying glass, she 'd get even more uncooperative.
But I don't feel confident that it got inside of her. She moved enough that I couldn't tell if she was wet on the outside because I lost my
spot.

At least her numbers were quite smashing today!
Sure hope I got the insulin in her but I have to go record it in the spreadsheet. :roll:

Shadow is doing GREAT!!! Get a hold of her skin firmly, & shoot--If you want to get faster, practice with an orange & a syringe..It helped me a lot & did make me faster!
Try putting a treat like real or freeze dried chicken or such right under her nose while you are shooting--She wont run away so fast!! You are a great Bean!
Patience on the auto feeder, hard to teach any cat new tricks :lol: :lol: :lol: But not impossible--Hugs & Love from us!

Shadow always has chopped up shrimp mixed in her food for shot time.
She wants that more than anything.....shrimp are her favorite.
Freeze dried anything not so much altho' I was going to go find the freeze dried quail necks.
If I didn't put the shrimp there I know it would be a struggle every single time.

She just hasn't moved away from me in a very long time so I let my guard down tonight. I have to remember to always expect her
to dodge.
I wish she were more like those of you who have a cat that doesn't notice the shots but she does.
And she's a bossy get her way kinda girl. Doesn't like being fiddled with in any way.
Too many surgeries made her defensive. :sad:

Hi Rhiannon - what a great day for Shadow! Numbers are fantastic. bummer on the shot though. Mannie gets his while he eats so he is so busy being a chow hound that he doesn't notice. I can see how Shadow would be defensive, surgeries can do that.

Hopefully she'll get used to the auto feeder soon. Surely she will once she associates it with FOOD!

I'd love to hear more feedback on your caliper tests. I've always wondered how far off the syringes actually are, especially important with the low doses for our furbabies. I've been using Ulti Care pet syringes (from the vet... $$$$... I know STUPID BEAN!!) and recently went out and purchased ReliOn from Walmart - sooooooo much cheaper! I read that these were among the most accurate (somewhere, on FDMB ??, can't seem to find the thread again). With small doses I hate to trust a 13 cent syringe though. Where did you purchase the caliper from? I may have to try that out, sounds like a great idea!

here's the caliper. I think they are quite nice for the price.

Marje borrowed a micropipette and calibrated her syringes ( which were also what I had) and they were quite inaccurate. 1.46 in a unit
in monoject vs 1 u in terumo.

The calipers are good for creating your own line on the syringe so you can maintain consistency regardless of the markings that are printed
on the syringes. They are probably all made in China. :roll:

Watching and learning so much here in your condo and ss! :shock: The caliper sounds like an excellent idea, and I just gave Reuben shrimp for the testing treat. He he loved it! :razz: Thank you so much for your ideas and concern yesterday, it was a really big help :-D -Alexa
