The door to the food closet was left slightly ajar, and while I was in the ladies room, LT got in there and helped himself to some kibble - I don't think he got too much, but enough to mess him up today. He is too sneaky for his own good.
 
Wow! I love LT's short and blue-green turning SS!! Let's keep it that way, LT! Stay away from the kibble.

Apologies if this was asked already, but is LT's name short for something?
 
LT just threw up a huge pile of throw up - lot of visible food and some clumps of fur - not a fully formed hair ball that I could see. I haven't checked his sugar yet, but I wanted to put the call out for HELP!
 
What color is the throw up? Any black in it? How digested was the food, barely or a lot? Maybe it's just the kibble he got into earlier? Have any Cerenia on hand? I wouldn't panic just yet, get some Cerenia in him if you can and then see how he feels about dinner.

Edit: or I guess lunch, not dinner? Not sure where you're at in the cycle.
 
This is gross, but I looked at in the paper towels and it does feel and look more like mushy kibble - it was a huge quantity. His BG is 208 at +7.25. I don't have any Cerenia - we've never needed it before for LT or the dog.

That could be it. Sometimes when they get used to lower carb, a big influx of high carb can disrupt their system. I remember one time I had to steer Sebastian a bit, during a period where he wasn't eating his normal food much, so I just fed him like 2 cans of HC gravy. Diarrhea the next day. So I wouldn't sweat it too much unless he's not wanting to eat his next meal or does but throws it up. Then I'd start checking ketones and trying to get some anti-nausea in. Not sure what your options for that would on a Sunday.
 
Thanks Justin. He didn't get much, but it probably did bother his tummy. I'm so used to a diabetic dog, that when he throws up he hopefully eats it so it doesn't disrupt his BG. How does throwing up affect the BG when using Lantus?

I will be getting my Vet's Best Hairball Relief tomorrow. You could go ahead and begin using.
LT should be fine after purging that mess. His BG won't be as high since it didn't finish going through him.
You might need to crush and mix the VB in food.
 
I crushed the VB and mixed it with about of teaspoon of hi Friskies pate and he gobbled it down. It's about the only time I've ever outsmarted him. I'll continue to give it to him. If a dog doesn't eat the throw up and is on insulin, it can be an emergency which is why I got so excited.
 
The fact the LT was chowing down on the Friskies should be reassuring. I'd probably avoid giving him anything he's unfamiliar with since you don't know how he'll react.

Just an FYI - kibble can go rancid very quickly. It's usually quite high in fat and fat can turn rancid. Dogs will eat pretty much anything. Dog food isn't particularly good for cats so the kibble may have been a bit off or too high in fat for LT's tummy.

I'd wait and see what's going on at dinner time.

Oh, and I hate to admit it, but it's kibble we feed our outdoor cats (we just can't afford at this time to put them on canned).
 
I'll call our vet tomorrow a.m. about getting some Cerenia - DH can pick it up when he's down that way tomorrow (about 15 miles from here).
 
I feed my ferels dry also. The wet draws flys and fire ants horribly. They also don’t all come eat at the same time, so with dry there’s always food out.

How is the mule?

Sounds like it was probably the kibble that got LT’s tummy. Remember that LT, kibble makes your tummy yucky!
 
The 2 outdoor cats are rescue's:1) Fred, a Maine-Coon cross came from the hospital I worked at (hanging out in the parking lot), and 2) Jake, a black-long hair from a place I volunteered at (living in an old lumber yard). Fred is a Maine-Coon cross - big as a barn and Jake, a black long-hair is also large. They both come in the house at night in the winter time if they want - sometimes sleeping in our hay stack or an old dog house with lots of blankets. Fred was neutered shortly after "capture" and Jake was already neutered. They are both great cats and they both capture mice and other small rodents. We give them each about a cup of dry food each/day, but they rarely eat all of it.
