Hi LL!
Blech. Monday.
Yesterday, Eddie had a bit of a bounce clearing cycle in the AM with a latish nadir and a couple hours in green. He was low enough at PMPS time, that he wasn't dramatically headed up, and he had another visit from Mr. Greenie in the PM cycle. Eddie's numbers yesterday were nice! Today, on the other hand, was kind of a hot mess.
Today started with a reasonable enough AMPS of 199, but by +1, Eddie had shot up into the 300's (344 then 309 on retest). Then, by +2, he had dropped almost 100 points to 218, and I was like . Worried about a drop, I filled up the auto feeder to open with some 5% at AM +4 and AM +5. My out the door test at +2.5 was 151 or another 50 point drop in half an hour, and I was like
. I fed some 17% and said a little prayer. Today it would have been really nice to have been able to sneak out to get a +4 or so, but neither DH nor I could get home. When I checked Eddie at lunch time (+6), he was at 117, and then 123 at +6.5. DH got home from work early this evening, and at +9, Eddie had hit the pink floor and headed into an ugly bounce. Looking back, he has usually hit pinks that early in the AM cycle only when he's hit fairly low greens really early in the cycle, so I'm pretty suspicious that Eddie was playing deep in the lagoon unsupervised at some point this morning.
Anyone else have any insight on what might have transpired this AM? This seems to be a fairly common pattern....bounce or big food spike to +1, then huge drop to +2. Is Eddie immediately bounce clearing as soon as the insulin onsets? Is his pancreas helping out when he eats and pulls himself back down from a bounce/food spike?
Tonight, Eddie continued in the pinks and reds, but is now making his way back down. I've changed my feeding the curve strategy recently. I'm not trying to slow the curve other than with his normal LC food at PS, +1, +2, and +3 when he's dropping from numbers in the 300's or 400s. For whatever reason, even though he's dropping a lot from high numbers, he seems to not necessarily bounce from those drops. However, if he's dropping from blues into greens fast and early in the cycle, or he's dropping really fast and hitting blues before +3 from high numbers - in those instances, I am feeding some higher carb to try to slow him down.
Prayers and vines to all kitties and beans in need, and special good SRT vines for Polly!
