Yesterday..

I normally give 2 units of R for a BG in the 400s. I gave 1.5 and it knocked him down to 210. Getting a +6 in 15 minutes. I also just got an alert on my phone - evacuation orders for those in evacuation zone A. (I'm just outside of zone E.)

Right now I'm charging my phone/tablet/computer and unplugging all other electronics, taking my work laptop with me but storing my other work equipment in plastic bins in the closet, taking fragile things off the shelves, rolling towels for the base of the door. I still haven't received the 2nd cat playpen, but 1 is better than nothing.

While I am still packing the essentials, we will most likely end up waiting this out in a closet or a bathroom. It's not ideal, but being stuck on the road in traffic that isn't moving, unable to feed or test or give them water for who knows how long is a worse scenario.

Nice number!
I agree there is no point in getting on the road now. My mom's good friend lives in Boynton Beach and she decided to stay and now of course regrets it but said the same thing you don't want to be stuck on the road somewhere. Sending lots of prayers and hope that sucker turns east as much as possible out to sea.

Good luck Adrian and kitties! Where in FL are you in again? Im up just south of Jacksonville and Im staying put for now. I figured theres not much use in evacuating since it'll just aid in clogging the interstates. (Im not in an evac spot myself, so I think we'll be ok.)

I'm in Tampa. It's ironic - if I'd gone with my original plan, I'd be in a St. Augustine hotel this evening with everything the cats and I need until Wednesday. But I canceled the reservation last Wednesday evening when I saw the forecast change, showing the hurricane coming up the east coast. :banghead:

+9 was 177

You may be better off in Tampa, but who knows at this point... St A will get hit pretty hard though from what I see, so it was probably a good idea to cancel that.

Nice to see those blues back. Hope Chino doesn't plan anything silly tonight.

Irma, think east.

I'm expecting to see green at +4. I really hope this isn't just because I gave him R this morning... though even if he goes up from here, I'm probably not going to increase until the hurricane has come and gone. My parents want me to come to their house before the hurricane and keep the cats in a bathroom or in the laundry room. My dad says it's supposed to last 6 hours... but how long will we be stuck there afterwards? They have more windows than I do. I'm at a higher flood risk, but the 2 playpens arrived and I'm going to pin them together in my office (2nd bedroom) with the litterbox in one and their beds/toys/water in the other. I'm going to cover that window with Contact film and if worst comes to worst, we'll hunker down in the closet together until the worst is over. But I'm not going to confine them to a bathroom or utility room. Each playpen is 45" across and 24" high. I'll be in the room or the pen with them as much as possible.

I'm currently boiling an entire carton of eggs, filling 2 clean plastic storage containers with tap water (24 gallons total). There are 12 gallons of spring water in the living room and a handful of water bottles in the freezer. I'll set up the first playpen in my office tonight (they're not allowed in that room). When the rain starts coming down heavily, I'll bring one of the litterboxes inside and set it up in the living room in the 2nd playpen. When things get crazy, I'll move the cats and the litterbox into the office and attach the 2 playpens. The hurricane is supposed to reach us on Sunday afternoon.

My main concern is the cat door. It's a panel of glass that I installed between the sliding glass door to the patio and the door frame. There's a gap of 1-2 mm between the sliding pane and the pane with the cat door. I might be able to take it down by myself, but will have to wait until I've set up a litterbox indoors. Once it's removed, I have no idea where to store it. It's 90-something inches tall (at least 7.5 feet - fun fact: I'm 5'2") and I had to wedge a piece of cardboard under the left or right side while my brother-in-law (who lives in Orlando) held is steady just to get it to line up with the sliding door without a significant gap. If I don't remove it, I might cover the gap with a strip of tape.

The little guys definitely know that something is happening.

Good idea not to push things with a hurricane coming.

Any more room in the freezer for bottled water? If the electricity system gets hit hard, it may be a day or days before it is back online.

Yikes on the glass panel. If you do decide to take it out, get some help with it.

Grr... this is why I was reluctant to give R. Now I don't know if I need to reduce or if I just need to stop giving R. If he stays above 50 tonight (or above 70 on the AlphaTrak), I'll keep him at 14.5 units and see what he does on 6 cycles without R. Next check at +4.5.

PMPS = 135 (lowest since AMPS - 3rd meal LC 3%)
[4th cycle on 14.5 units Lantus]
+2 = 110
+4 = 55 (4th meal LC 3% + 2 tsp gravy from HC 20%)

Going back down to 14 units tomorrow morning.

Looks like the start of a bounce. If he's above 70 at +6, I'm going to bed until +8.

Glad you got him turned around. For what it's worth, I would have done even less R. You want the R to take them down around 100 points only. I think it's a good idea to keep his dose a little the next few days. Stay safe.

On 9/03, 2 units of R took him from 396 to 310. That's the kind of response I was expecting from 1.5 units yesterday.
