Update from the vet visit: So, the radiologist to do his ultrasound wasn't in today, so I am going to have to schedule that for another time, hopefully soon. The vet didn't do any blood work today like I thought either due to him just getting blood work a couple weeks ago, he has pancreatitis and that's that. We focused a lot on his skin and scabs, they have him a shot of something to help I think it's called Convenia or something, then she put on some flea meds that are supposed to act fast, its called Bravecto Feline PLUS. I haven't seen him really bite at this skin too much since we got home, which is always good, they said it can take about a week to start noticing. Then of course she sent me home with Cerenia that I will more than likely have to give to him daily. I didn't give him a dose one night last week and he puked twice, so it seems as though Cerenia is going to be an everyday thing for him. Going to get a call from her about scheduling that ultrasound, which is good, I want to see if there is any IBS, tumors or anything else. She said based off the blood test from a couple weeks ago, doesn't look like any indications of any tumors or anything else, but I want to do it still and make sure.
I told her that I am using a human meter and she didn't seem too happy about it, I want to mention that she did not try to sell me anything the whole time I was there, she did say using the Alphatrek 3 meter is a meter she trusts and likes a lot. I told her (which is the truth) that the Relion Platinum meter does show about 100 points less than the Alphatrek, I tested it again when I got home and the Alphatrek is always higher than the Relion Platinum. The Alphatrek is just too spendy. 50 test strips are freaking $50! and with how much I test him already, and the fact I dont have a job, thats wayyyyy too spendy for me right now. I don't know if I should trust the higher readings on Alphatrek, or the lower ones on Relion. I might have to just bite the bullet and go with the Alphatrek and stick to only testing twice a week besides on curve days...I'm just very lost. His blood sugar has been pretty good the last couple days, but that's on the human reader, so if I am trusting the Alphatrek, his numbers haven't been good at all :/ very lost. I want to take the advice from you all about using human meters, but the vet seemed really adimit on me using a reader that is specific for animals, it does make me uncomfy to know that the reasons are 100 points off from reach other. I don't know what to trust.
