AMPS 401 :arghh::arghh::arghh: shooting 2.25

I really feel like I'm failing my boy. :arghh:
I just don't get it. I don't understand why he has better numbers for 1 or 2 cycles then goes back up and stays up. Every single dose; it's the same thing. :confused::confused::confused::mad::mad::mad::blackeye::blackeye::blackeye:

Dose increase again tomorrow morning unless something miraculous happens.

Boomer ate all of his +3 but left some of his +6 and some of his +9.
Allen had to fast last night, has received his pill an hour early (due to DH having to leave for golf) and will get to eat in about half an hour.
 
I'm sorry Judy. Take deep breaths. Boomer will surprise when you least expect it.

Judy, I think I would hold this dose for now because it looks like he is bouncing from those blues 4 cycles ago. Remember, his depot is goofed up right now, the NS, then reduced amount of 1.25 for 5 cycle. I think I would assume he is trying to clear the bounce and give it up to 6 cycles to do so. JMHO

This is his 7th cycle at 2.25 so I would think the depot was full by now?
When I look at Boomer's ss and see a +3 that is higher than PS I consider it a bounce because +3 would normally be his onset. So to me the pm cycle on Sept 5 was a bounce and that makes sense because he did see blue for a while earlier that day.
Then when I see a +3 lower than PS, I believe the bounce has cleared. Like yesterday morning. Yesterday looks like a normal cycle to me (although a trifle high lol).

So please help me understand where I'm wrong in my thinking....you're suggesting he's just trying to clear the bounce now. Yesterday someone else suggested he was still bouncing. I don't get it.....help?
 
I would not hold this dose past today. Who cares if he's bouncing, this dose is just not getting him into the numbers he needs to. It wasn't before the dental either. If it was me, I'd actually be increasing now. Greens are the goal. You don't need to see if he gets back to blue after the bounce is over. After Neko's first dental, I had to increase too. I figured it was some of the inflammation from healing the extraction site that caused her numbers to go up. I could actually see the redness myself. It wasn't until day 10 after the dental that her numbers started coming down. Hang on. :bighug: A little more juice will get him through this.

I agree with you that he started bouncing on the PM cycle of the 5th, after those blues which started the night before. There can be a cycle or two delay after a "low" before a bounce really starts. If he were to take 6 cycles to clear a bounce, that would be tonight. So, why is it important whether or not he's bouncing.? It's not really. You would just prefer to not increase on the cycle that he's clearing the bounce because it can cause extra downward momentum. Have you read Libby's post on Increasing during a bounce? Boomer's not new to blue nadirs, you don't need to wait any longer than you have. You DO need to get him out of these ugly numbers. You are an experienced caregiver and need to be more aggressive with Boomer out of remission. You CAN do this. :bighug:

Oh yes I am definitely leaning towards increasing tomorrow! These high numbers are making me crazy. I'm just trying to understand why/how others are seeing things differently.

So when one increases before a bounce has cleared, is the assumption that the kitty's levels are not going to go any lower than the previous low cycle? Because that's what I've been afraid of......that since 2 days ago his levels came down into mid blues that whatever the next good cycle he has might be in greens and if he has additional insulin.....could result in levels that are too low.
 
The lowest Boomer ever got on 2.25 was low/mid 80's, which leaves room for an increase, regardless of whether he's bouncing are not. There are no guarantees how low he'll go of course, and if he's breaking a bounce there can be extra downward momentum. But as long as you can monitor like you normally do, you should be fine.

I just keep hoping that something will start to work! Antibiotics or dental or something/anything! What a stubborn kitty I have :rolleyes:
 
If you take a look at Mandarin's ss, he was doing something similar after his last dental in April. He kept staying in high numbers and I kept hoping that the dose would eventually work. And nothing happened. Once I finally committed to increasing an insufficient dose every 6-8 cycles, he quickly hit the point where he got a high enough dose that brought him back into blues and greens and he has stayed there ever since. Obviously, ECID, but I agree with @Wendy&Neko that he needs more juice.
 
...and I totally get how frustrating all of this must be, especially for a cat that has been OTJ and was tightly regulated for the longest time. I am convinced though that he will get back to that point. :bighug::bighug:

I know it was just wishful thinking on my part that he would slide back into remission after the dental (either dental) like he did last year.
 
Glad that others weighed in. My concern was you increasing when he starting to clear the bounce. But, as Wendy says, you are an experienced care giver and know what to do. I did not see that the 2.25 did not do it for him prior to the dental and I was more focused on the interruption in the depot and the low to mid yellows on the 25th and 26th and no test beyond that.

Hope this cycle proves to be a game changer for you or you'll know what to do.
