Thanks you, perfumed mom for the excellent resource on Chloe’s post. I have ordered the 4 Soullistic wet foods low in phosphorus neat the top of her chart that her kitty likes. My questions are :
What is a safe range for protein, carbs, and phosphorus for our diabetic kitty with possibly beginning stages of CKD?
Is it safe to continue giving her Orijen freeze dried original treats (can’t find phosphorus level for the treats)?
Are there other safe treats that FDBM members use for kitties with these two issues?
I will post the results of Marmy’s urine test when I get them
Thank you so muc

I think the treat should be fine as I don't believe Orijen contains bone. Purebites is the brand that we know is pure meat and won't have bone in it. With treats, they rarely ever list phosphorus levels, so I would err on getting the ones that are lowest in carbs.

Phosphorus you should keep the percentage below 1% on a dry matter basis, and/or below 250 mg/100 kcal.

Carbs you should keep below 10%, ideally somewhere around 5%.

Protein is a question and there are differing opinions. I would aim for below 50% if you can find that as a goal. You don't want to feed too low protein because that might lead to muscle wastage in an older kitty like Marmy.

For protein do you really mean “Below”? If so what is “too low” ? Maybe between 40 and 50? Any brands that you recommend in that range with the low carb and low phosphorus as well. I am looking to gradually switch M from the Primal to a better fit for her various issues. Thank you very much!!:bighug:
