It's been a busy couple of days. Pet Refuge (the shelter that I volunteer for) took in 11 dogs from Texas on Monday. In the process, I managed to hurt my back (probably when I lifted a carrier with a 50+ pound dog). Definitely not the most fun thing when you also have your own animals to take care of... and bending over to clean litter boxes, for example, is still pretty painful.
I am still toying with the idea of taking one of the Texas dogs into foster. All of them have medical issues (lots of heartworm positive dogs, skin issues, URIs, kennel cough, and who knows what else). Several of them will most likely need months of recovery before they will be ready for adoption. These are all dogs that were already in shelters before Harvey . They are being moved out of the area to make room for pets that were rescued after the hurricane and that still have owners looking for them.
Meanwhile, Walter and Mandarin are doing well, even though they have both been a tad bit higher after their most recent reductions. In Mandarin's case, it's mostly his pre-shots that have been blue, but he still drops into the 50s and 60s almost every day. So I will give this dose a bit longer. I am trying to also feed a +9 snack, but that's hard with my wok schedule... and since I often set alarms at 2 or 3 am to test and feed, it's really hard to get up at 5 am (=+9) to feed again.
Walter is starting to spend more and more time in blue, but I am nervous to take him back up to 1 unit since there are still some lower green mid-cycle. We'll see what he does in the next couple of days. I won't be home enough today and tomorrow to even consider an increase.
...and now I better grab another cup of coffee and get ready for work.
