Yuck - more red. I think this might be from the freeze dried salmon I gave him. Wonder what is in it - just says salmon but lately he has had high bg when I feed it to him.

From Sandy's post yesterday: "Pattie, did you feel like if you hadn't intervened he would have dropped like a rock today?"

Yes, I do feel that he would have hit 40 had I not given the HC food. Maybe I should do a MC food when he gets to the 80 instead of HC. What do you think?

Good morning Pattie! The freeze dried salmon spikes Tarragon as well. I'm not sure why though.

I would definitely go with MC at 80 instead unless you are going to be gone for awhile. Every cat is different so you need to know what Harley would do. When Tarragon gets that low, he usually flies on down the ladder. Some kitties are able to surf at that level all day.

Once more Harley is falling like a stone. I know I only gave 1.2 oz FF and 2.5u this AM but wow. I did make my own MC to get him to stabilize....1/2 Tb 3% LC + 1/2 Tb 15% HC.

That depends. It would be nice to see if he needs another reduction (I'm getting the feeling he does) however I hate to see him get too low.
Try it, if you are going to be around to monitor, and see how he reacts.
Interesting about the salmon treats. . .got anything else to use instead? Does he like freeze dried chicken breat treats?

I have tried the Hallo chicken stuff but he turns his nose up at it. I thought it was only Harley who had problems with it but looking at Melissa's post on Tarragon (love that name), I guess others have problems too.

I have to be gone for over an hour so I hate to have him fall. I know that if I did not give MC/HC he would fall and then bounce. I had to give just plain HC 45 minutes ago because he fell to 79. Right now +6/99.

It just occured to me...

He cleared that last bounce pretty quick...just a little over 1 cycle... :mrgreen:

Try and surf while your mamabean is away Harley !

ETA - maybe leave a few bites of HC for him to eat while you are gone?

Going back down. +7/78. I have to leave now. I am going to give him 1 Tb HC but will make a quick stop home between trips.

I am concerned about what I am doing with Harley and his insulin needs. The last two days he has fallen and in order to stop it, I have given HC or MC food which forced numbers up. I think he has earned a dose decrease - 1, if not 2 of them. Both days, I know he would have fallen to 40 (or below) if I had not intervened. I did give the 2.5u tonight but I really think that I should have only give 2.25u.

Thoughts please!

Patti,
If you feel you have to keep intervening with HC, why don't you go with your instincts and try the 2.25u?
If it does not work out, no harm done. If you stay with the higher dose, you may see some harm if he drops too low and too fast and you can't bring him up.
It's never wrong to err on the side of caution.

How low should I let Harley go (if he goes low) tonight before I start on the HC?

That's a hard call - Harley did clear that last bounce pretty fast - 1 cycle.

As a guideline, if you see blue tonight before +7 it probably would be a good idea to start guiding the cycle. Maybe HC for blue before +7 and LC for blue after?
What do you think?
You've been managing well using food for several cycles - today AM and 09/05/AM. You did a great job keeping him from going too low.
