Re: 9/5 Skunky AMPS 104 (after lots of high carb) +2 85
Good job last night and NICE AMPS!!
As for the feeding HC all night, don't worry about it...better safe than sorry and she seems to be doing OK this morning!
In the future though, if she drops below 50, you give a little HC and then re-test in 20-30 minutes. I like to see them back into the 60's and then STOP feeding but keep testing!
You want to make sure that the insulin is wearing off and they're able to maintain a safe blood glucose level without you having to keep feeding them. If you're having to keep feeding to stay above 50, then they're still in the "danger zone".
Once she's about 60, you stop feeding and test in another 30 minutes...if still OK, test again an hour later. You want to test for at least 2 hours from the last time you fed to make sure they're staying up on their own.
Some examples to help explain:
She drops below 50 and you feed the HC food and then 30 minutes later she's in the 60s (or higher)... 30 minutes later she's still in the 60's or higher...test one more time in an hour and she's still going up.....it's generally safe to go on to bed
She drops below 50 and you feed some HC and 30 minutes later she's in the 60's (or higher)...30 minutes later she drops back below 50...You start over again, feeding more HC food and retesting in 30 minutes, then another 30 minutes then an hour later....so you get 2 hours of rising numbers from the last time you fed anything....that way you know that it's not JUST the food keeping them up and it's safe to sleep
She drops below 50 and gets the HC...30 minutes later she's still below 50 so gets some more HC....30 minutes later she's finally in the 60's. Get one more test in 30 and if still going up, one more test an hour later and then it's generally safe
Basically it's FOOD +30 minutes, +30 minutes, + 60 minutes...if numbers are all safe, you're good to go ....if you have to feed AGAIN because she drops below 50 again, it starts over.
That help make it a little clearer?
