So why such a high AMPS this morning? Ummmm.

Lowest number we shot last night...no carbs.....just regular EVO 0% carbs given. She ate just a tad bit less during the day and her regular amount during the evening.

I wonder if she is getting too many calories. She didn't lose weight before the dx....she is definitely overweight now and has been overweight for last few years.....hasn't lost any in the last month....no free feeding.

Eating about 150 calories canned (except for yesterday AM) plus small snacks which I don't think really add up to many calories....maybe the additional calories from the snacks is keeping her at the current weight (dental treats....bonita flakes...or freeze dried chicken). She weighs just over 11 lbs. I don't know what her ideal weight should be....10 lbs at least????

I read something from Dr. Pierson about calculating caloric intake for feline weight reduction.....ideal wt x 15(minimum number) = number of calories given. So ideal wt of 10 x 15 = 150. Maybe her ideal weight should be less than 10...maybe 9? Maybe reduce the canned a tad and keep the regular treats/snacks. Ummmm.

Any thougths.....

Re: 9/5 Curry 216

Well, that yellow certainly does stand out on Curry's SS but it's already turned to a blue. (Whew!)

One point about the info on weight loss on Dr. Lisa's site... She notes that her calculation for calories is "generous." My read of the information is that she starts the process at a point where your cat won't be miserable and so you can begin reducing calories at a reasonable pace.

Re: 9/5 Curry 216

Good morning!

My thoughts are, that took me a while to figure out for my own kitty.
lol, not much help am I? Math is not my strong point.
Luna began his FD challenge underweight, got his insulin and as much food as he wanted, plump up, numbers got regulated over time, and he slimmed down and has been the same since. My civvie kitty was overweight at the time, and when Luna's food intake changed she slimmed down too to a much nicer weight.

216 - not too high at all! Look you can see a little blue in there, it's ok!

Re: 9/5 Curry 216

I face the same issue.... Never overweight before DX, now packing a few extra pounds. I elected to cut back on the amount given at each feeding time. It has been partially successful. With Mannie however, being the king of diving, there are times when I have to feed HC, up goes the calorie and quantity intake, and we start over. At least he hasn't gained any more. I've read that most cats need about 6 ounces/day (true??), and that's more or less what I go by. and no cal kitty treats - gave up on the dental ones, as I believe (?) they have calories/carbs in them) anyways...

have a nice holiday weekend!

+2-99.

Good to know about the "generous" part of the calculation process.

Found this nugget on Dr. Lisa's site: "The most accurate way is to calculate how many calories your cat is currently eating to maintain his not-so-svelte figure. Then take 80% of those calories as a starting point."

So Curry has been getting at least 150 calories a day.....so might reduce to 120 calories (80%) .....100 from canned plus snacks, treats to get in the other 20 or so calories. She also recommends weighing the cat every 3-4 days. No more than 3% of their body weight per week. We will see how this plays out and doing the insulin. Of course, if I need to feed her during a glucose scuba dive, I will certainly do so.

Re: 9/5 Curry 216 +2-99

Look at that +2! good going Curry.
Good luck with the diet, I have a big eater in Tray too so we have to measure out his food and not give in to the begging too much

Re: 9/5 Curry 216 +2-99 +3 58

+3=58 Her typical nadir time.

Well with all the discussion about weight loss and food reduction Curry decided to do a little scuba diving in hopes of getting some gravy. Yummo.

So gave the LC w/a hint of FF gravy. She's smiling now.

Re: 9/5 Curry 216 +2-99 +3 58 3.5-52

nice +3.5 re-test!

Rinse, lather and repeat and more smiles from Curry I'm sure.

Re: 9/5 Curry 216 +2-99 +3 58 3.5-52

+3.5 = 52 1/2 hour past her usual nadir time.

Well she decided to check out fishes near the bottom of the ocean today.

Little more gravy please.

Will check again in 15 minutes....maybe she'll stop fishing for awhile.

+3.75 = 68.

Her scuba tank ran low on oxygen and she decided to surface. She sd she saw some interesting critters near the ocean bottom but they didn't look too appetizing. She'd rather have gravy instead since I won't give her any kibbles anymore.

Looks like the heading in my post came up as a skype phone number...Finland......has the flag w/a white background and blue stripes in the form of a cross on the left side. Cool.

Curry must be one of those cats that does what we call the high before the break. They throw an uncharacteristic high number, followed immediately by a dive. Now you know to watch out when you see yellow!

goooooo Curry!
