Hi Everyone,
We hope everyone has been having a good Labor Day Weekend. Our houseguest left this afternoon and we had a great time, but I never did get on the board. We had some rain (Friday), a beautiful sunny day on which we had a lovely paddle (Sat.), total rain (yesterday; we watched the 2016 Bayreuth "Parsifal"--wonderful), and sunshine again today. Now we are getting ready for the 90 Miler canoe race (we are the "Pit Crew" for our friend, the boatbuilder), which begins on Friday. It's supposed to rain all week, so I hope the forecast is wrong.
Rusty was the purrfect host, as usual. His appetite has been pretty good. His breathing is Ok, except for last night, when he sounded awful. Today is day 19 of the antibiotics (day 7 of the second Convenia shot). I tried him on a new food today: Nature's Variety Instinct Duck. He ate it, so that's always a good sign. Maybe he'll like it.
We're home tomorrow and then on Wednesday we go down to camp, our staging point for the 90 Miler. We like to get to the beach at Inlet around 8:30 A.M. on Friday so that we can see the paddlers arrive at the first carry. The race begins in Old Forge and the first day ends on the beach at Blue Mountain Lake: 33 miles, including 5 carries (portages). Our friend runs the carries (the longest is 1.5 miles) with his canoe on his shoulder. It's a challenge keeping up with him. We replenish his supply of water at each of the carries and give him candy bars, if he wants them. At the end of the first day we have sandwiches and beer for him at Blue Mt. Lake. It's a really neat day. I hope it doesn't rain!
