Morning! ~O) ~O) Maggie is in good spirits this morning, and all that sleep yesterday must have given Mags her kitten wings back again. She was so playful this morning hopping around with that cute wiggle and playing with her pole toy! I also awoke to Mags screaming, growling and hissing her head off at another cat thru the patio pane! Maggie said to the kitty, "my Mommy was a feral and taught me street smart skills, and I can take you on with no hiccups. And, I still have my untrimmed claws, thanks to my clumsy Bean that I don't trust with anything sharp!" I think this kitty may be one of the ferals living on the other side of my apartment. We have a small feral colony towards the freeway hillside, and they're being well taken care of and neutered by a couple Tenants. Once in a while one of them decides to take a stroll at night! All the P's are working today, and Mags has a nice AMPS. I don't know why she was so high last night at the +3! I hope everyone's enjoying this long weekend.

Thank you Attie for the great party and fresh fishes and all the yummy fuds. We all had a great time. Thanks to Mannie for driving the KTSS bus and picking us up. I hope we can do it again, Maggie

This was totally unexpected. I was just expecting a nice mid 80! Maggie had a teeny amount of Gerber beef bf as a reward for the poke, and now she's eating her regular lc. I'll test in 30 minutes to see if she's come up.

SWEET!!!! What a morning. Guess her liver really passed training school with flying colours not spiking after telling off that nosy kitten! What a drama queen    Her mom would be proud.

I think Mags will come up slowly; another check in 30 or so minutes.

Hi Karrie, yes, I expected a spike too after all that yelling at the poor kitty! Maggie is such a half pint it's quite comical.

Nice start today! It's funny how these demure little kittie can turn into fluffed out rages when another cat comes too close. You stand your ground, Mags.

Yay! Mags came up on her own with just a treat of bf and her regular lc fuds! I guess I need three 70's on three different days for a reduction. I'm in no hurry though.

Hi Ann, yes, it was really shocking the first time I ever saw her screaming at another kitty, as she's always so sweet and gentle. The Vets and staff love her as she's so submissive with them, even trimming her nails.

WOW, and look at Maggie go. What a nice and great AM cycle today. Good job Maggie!!

I love the nighttime visitor, and Maggie defending the home front. I can so see the thought process.

have a great day guys - hope you got your walk in, and that eh weather is decent.

Maggie - I am so with you - good times at Attie's!! See you ~~ Mannie

Mags came back up slowly just on her usual FF lc fuds! Not too bad for today.

Hi Michelle, yes every once in a while I hear Mags defending her turf. Thanks, it did turn out to be a nice day for Maggie. I didn't get a walk in today, as I did a check at the +3 and then stuck around the apartment in between laundry. Maybe I could get a walk in later, although I'll miss all my dog friends. I'm going to meet a friend for coffee/lunch later, and I think it's safe now that Maggie came up to 101. I'll leave her some food, too. Weather her is nice, only 71 degrees so far and could get warmer.

A yowling kitty defending her home sounds familiar. You go Miss Maggie. I've resorted to putting up cardboard over the sliding glass door at night just in case another kitty decides to visit again.

I gave Maggie a tsp. of FF Turkey & Giblets to keep her from dropping again tonight. She doesn't seem herself when she's in the 70's. I know she'll need to earn three 70's to get a reduction. but on other days.

Hi Tena, yes I remember so well what happened with your two with the stray kitty entering your yard. What a time that was for your two and the behavior training.

Re: 9/4 Maggie AMPS 152; PMPS 119 Question on Fleas

I was going to ask this question on Health, but thought I'd try here first. Is there any problem with using Advantage for fleas for diabetic kitties. I can't believe it, but I found some flea dirt and a flea on Maggie. She's completely indoor, but I live on the first floor. We do have tons of shrubbery here on the grounds, and the Gardeners come twice a week and use the blowers. It's hard to tell how she got it. Any of you that go outside with kitties use Advantage? I've never had to use it since Mags being diagnosed!

Edit: Had an answer on Health to Advantage question. Okay to use but always watch for side effects. I feel so terrible about Mags getting a flea(s). There is one very friendly visiting kitty that belongs to one of the neighboring houses, and she normally visits Grace next door, If Grace isn't home, Ash (kitty's name) knocks on my door for treats, and I've petted him. He actually pulls the loose screen door ajar and rattles it! Hard to tell how she got them. Hope you all don't think I'm a terrible Bean.

Re: 9/4 Maggie AMPS 152; PMPS 119 Question on Fleas

Hi Ann & Maggie,
We use FrontLine Plus because it also protects against ticks. I have never noticed an adverse reaction to it, in either Rusty or Stu.

Here's the recipe for Hungarian Cucumber salad that you were interested in. It's from Georg Lang's "The Cuisine of Hungary". (NY: 1971). Make sure that the paprika you use is real Hungarian sweet paprika (I use "Pride of Szeged", which I think is pretty much available everywhere; when I'm in NYC I get "vintage" sweet paprika from a Magyar Hentes ("Hungarian Butcher"). The recipe makes 4 large servings, which Lang suggests serving in individual glass bowls (but I just put it out in a bowl and everyone helps themselves):

2 medium or large cucumbers
1 teasp. salt
1 medium yellow onion
pinch of sugar
1 teasp. sweet paprika
1/4 cup white vinegar

1. Peel cucumbers and cut into thin slices. Mix with the salt, making sure that every slice is salted; add more salt if needed. Let the slices stand for 30 minutes or, if you have time, for as long as 2 hours.

2. Meanwhile, peel the onion and cut into hair-thin slices. Plae in a mixing bowl and add the sugar, paprika, vinegar and 1/2 cup water.

3. When the cucubers have released almost a cup of liquid, press out as much as you can (with your hands) from the slices. Discard the liquid.

3. Put the cucumber slices into the bowl with the onion dressing. Mix well. Adjust vinegar and water according to your taste for vinegar.

Lang's note: "This is exactly the way my family made cucumber salad, although many Hungarian homes mixed cucumbers with sour cream, or with oil and vinegar . . . This is a deceptively simple recipe with a surprisingly individual taste."

Enjoy. It is a very refreshing salad, especially on hot days with a crisp white wine.

Maggie is looking good today!

Re: 9/4 Maggie AMPS 152; PMPS 119

Thanks Ella for the info on Frontline, and especially, too, for the Hungarian cucumber salad. That sounds so nice and refreshing and something even I can handle, as I don't cook often, and I love cucumbers. It's similar to what my Mom used to make for us growing up, and she did use the sour cream. Her background is Ukranian. Yes, refreshing and with a nice white wine.

Re: 9/4 Maggie AMPS 152; PMPS 119

Hi Ann

I use Revolution on my two girls....it protects against heartworm....we've got mosquitos out the wazoo here. I'm also on the first floor and can carry the little critters(fleas) inside on my clothes unknowingly. I haven't seen any changes in Curry's glucose w/the Revolution.

Maggies sure did look good today.

Re: 9/4 Maggie AMPS 152; PMPS 119

Thanks Tena on Maggie's cycle and the Revolution. I've heard of Revolution. Yes, I'm beginning to see how easy it is to carry them on ourselves. Another neighbor's kitty here had fleas, and she's also an indoor kitty.

Maggie is looking great today!! Lovin all those blues and greens! So great to hear that she got her spunk on today. What a sweet girl. Guarding the house too. :-D

Hope you have a great evening Ann!!
