Good evening Lantus Land!

Jetson's been frisky today - a good sign :-D
Of course "frisky" meant he didn't feel like cooperating with AMPS test and ended up being late for work ohmygod_smile

This evening after work was much better - finally got a good drop on the first poke! flip_cat yea!

Question: If this tester is giving wacky numbers (CVS True Result brand), are they usually higher than actual, or lower? or do the results come back totally random?

Hope everyone's enjoying a great holiday weekend
And, sending DRY thoughts to anyone in LA or MS.

I may not be remembering this correctly. I think the tests were OK in higher numbers. They were unreliable in the lower ranges -- which is really where you need the meter to be accurate. I want to say that they were either wonky or the meter tested high when numbers were really lower.

what I usually notice with the "True" meters is that the numbers are mostly yellow and blue and fairly flat (like Jetson's). They're great numbers, but usually newbie kitties don't do quite that well right off the bat. I get suspicious when I see a new cat doing too well. Jetson's numbers are really nice, though, and hopefully his numbers will stay this way even with a different meter.

I had one of the "True" meters when we first started. It always read high, but the % of difference rose w/ higher numbers. It could read well over 100 points too high in the upper ranges.

Thanks Ann, Libby, Sienne for the meter info.

Being new to this, I really appreciate the advice
I wonder if the results are that off for humans  a little scary to think about!
Hate that I have about 100 strips for it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

So, if Jetson's numbers stay between 100 and 300 on this meter, would you suggest that's a "safe" range?
Pharmacies are on reduced hours due to holiday, and I'm working, so won't have a chance to switch meters till Tuesday the earliest.

Thanks  :-D  :-D

I think you're fine for now.

A lot of people here use Walmart's Relion brand meter. The meter and strips are among the least expensive around. If you get another brand meter, do whatever you can to not buy strips routinely at the pharmacy. You'll go broke. Strips are easily half the price on-line. I use a Contour and purchase strips on Amazon, Ebay (you can find incredible deals), Hocks, and ADW.

Re: 9/4 Jetson AMPS 118, +10.5 217, PMPS 201 meter question

I posted on yesterdays condo. I actually drove 2.5 hours to the US for the Relion Confirm and test strips. They worked amazing for Maverick and 50% cheaper than the cheapest Canadian strips. Only a small drop of blood required. The meter was $9 and the strips were $20 for 50 and $39 for 100. I just gave the meter to my friend to home test her cat and got my neighbor to pick me up a new one when she was in the US recently.
